Has any movie ever come close to grossing that (not adjusting for inflation)?

During its theatrical run, the film broke several box office records and became the highest-grossing film of all time, as well as in the United States and Canada,[27] surpassing Cameron's Titanic, which had held those records for twelve years.[28] It also became the first film to gross more than $2 billion[29]

The film broke various box office records and became, unadjusted for inflation, the highest-grossing installment in the franchise, the highest-grossing film in North America, the highest-grossing film of 2015 and the third-highest-grossing film of all time, with a worldwide gross of over $2 billion and a net profit of over $780 million.[6][7]

With an initial worldwide gross of over $1.84 billion, Titanic was the first film to reach the billion-dollar mark.

I knew it was the first but I didn't know it grossed $1.84 billion.

Anyone voting under a billion is crazy. It would take some ridiculous fuck ups and disasters that would make DC and EAs lovechild blush to gross under a billion.

Both Avengers movies crossed a billion(and a few not Avengers MCU films as welll) the recent MCU films have gotten even more positive reception than usual(Thor, Spider-Man and GOTG2 are all above the average critic score for the MCU and also grossed higher than their previous movies).

Plus almost every MCU movie has built up to this.

A billion is a lock. Hell 1.5 billion is a lock. 2 billion is a realistic amount they could hit. They might even clear well past 2 billion.

Civil War only grossed $1.1 Billion and that was basically Avengers 3. <_<

Age of Ultron only grossed $1.4 B

Spider-Man only grossed $880 Million

Thor Ragnarok is on it's way to a solid $775-800 Million.

even GotG 2 only hit $863 Million.

The movie is def a lock for $1 Billion. but I wouldn't bet my money on it being a definite lock for $1.5 Billion and I don't see how it's feasible for it to top $2 Billion, considering only 3 movies have done that in history and one of those was literal Star Wars.

On its way? Thor is already at 793 Million. My point with Spidey, Thor and GOTG2 was that they were up over their previous movies. All of them are in MCU and this movie basically has nearly ten years of gradually built up hype behind it and most its characters have become even more popular. Since.

Civil War and Iron Man 3 were the non avengers billion grossing movies. Yes Civil War was about the avengers but Captain America was the primary character and it wasnt called avengers and yes names are important.

I guess I don't see why people wouldn't have bothered to see the other Avengers movies in the cinemas but will buy a ticket for Infinity War. I think 1.5 billion is realistic but I'd be surprised if it hit 2 billion. That would be significantly higher than any other superhero movie.

Marvel movies are usually successful when it comes to the box office, regardless of quality. Infinity Wars should have an easy time making some cash.

2 billion is pretty realistic for this movie imo.

with successful being $800 Million+

the highest grossing was the first Avengers with just over $1.5 Billion. The rest have missed that mark by $100 Million+ <_<

I just don't see where any of you guys saying $2 Billion+ are getting it. The audience for these movies is almost always the same people

You're missing the point.

Across more movies than pretty much any franchise has ever gotten, the box office numbers have been pretty consistent. This clearly shows that, generally, a retention rate has been achieved for each film. There is nothing particularly extra special about Infinity War to a new-to-the-MCU movie goer to want to go and see Avengers 3. <_< If you're not already on the train, chances are you're not going to go and see it.

This isn't Jurassic World or Star Wars Episode 7, movies from franchises that had been dormant for decade(s) and that had massive hype. It's a movie from an established and consistently continuing movie universe that has yearly releases.

Hell, I'll come out and say that The Last Jedi won't top $2 Billion.

Not sure why you have to be immature to enjoy Marvel movies -- my parents (60 and 59 respectively) loved Ragnarok and they aren't devout MCU-ers or anything.

That said, yeah the audience is mostly the same, but if I was one step below casual, I'd still probably be more inclined to go see "Avengers 3" instead of "Thor 3" or "Captain America 3." Both of those two were still largely successful, I just think Avengers has more title cred than an individual character title does.

The beginning of the conclusion to a 10 year story that was gradually built up, the adaptation of a semi-popular story, every hero will be in this, the dudes who directed Winter Soldier and Civil War are directing this, and the third Avengers movie, and broke the record for most trailer views within a 24 hour period.

This is easily making 2 billion. You're a fool to assume otherwise.
