There's been a push the last few years to undermine people who don't want their shows and stuff spoiled. I think it's from selfish people who can't understand why people don't see things the way they do.

I'd guess this is because internet discusssion of stuff has grown and grown and it's hard to discuss things without spoilers

Meh. Before internet we'd talk about tv shows and games all the time. Hell I knew the whole damn story of Aliens before I ever got to watch it and enjoyed it still all the same as I did Alien or Alien 3 not knowing anything about them. There's definitely been an bigger obsession with spoilers with the rise of the internet.

Definitely but it's not just a simple, "Hey, people are going to talk about this and it's going to be hard to avoid. Sorry about your luck." It has turned into, "We're going to wantonly spoil things and here's why you're stupid and wrong for having a problem with it."

It's because spoilers are treated like advertisement/hype my media execs. It's basically free hype/advertisement for their product, so of course these guys want you to believe spoilers don't/can't spoil your enjoyment. For me? Yes, it does ruin things somewhat depending on the spoiler.

On the other hand, it's easy to hit the spoiler button.

Yeah, it depends on your upbringing. It was like this for me. Then high school me was surprised when he found GameFAQs where spoilers are treated like some abhorrent biohazard that causes instant fatal cancer.

Spoiler button isn't always an option. Like, youtube doesn't have an option to mark uploaded vids as spoilers which means it's very easy to get them in the recommended vids for other stuff from the same series. Nor do I think youtube comments have any sort of spoiler tagging/masking.

Then there's google autocomplete which has a high chance of spoiling things if you search certain characters

Sure but how many times a year do we get the "I got modded for spoiling a movie that's ______ years old this is a stupid rule if you're going to see it you already should have" topic right here on CE?

I used to think that the execution of a piece's progression overruled any potentially spoiled moments, but after playing Hollow Knight totally blind and having it be one of the most magical experiences in gaming, idk if that would hold true had I seen it's spectacles beforehand

oh

I don't mean on CE specifically, I just mean the internet in general. Your two options are basically to either stop using the internet or to stop caring too much about spoilers
