So some idiot saw a dark haired Dutch man and assumed he was a Muslim. What a joke. And this is the video that Trump retweeted.

I cannot count the amount of times I've been called a Muslim (or far worse) based just on my looks (dark hair, olive skin, dark eyes), that is about the only thing I consider to be "Islamophobic" (i'd use a different term though).

Make no mistake about it, both sides actively search for things that suit their agenda, the conundrum is somehow not being caught up in the spiteful web - I'm certainly not going to pretend as if I'm immune to it myself as in the past I've been both actively against Islam with almost every cell in my body, and also (much younger) been for it and thought everyone should be one.

The far right often whines about Islam being mistaken for a race, that is bound to happen when you associate people with it based on nothing but their hair and skin color.

Shouldn't you be a bit more wary of the far right then? I mean one of those loonies could go after you any time. And no matter how much you oppose islam and all that, to them you're just one of them.

You have a very healthy distrust of the far left, which is good. You should be just as skeptical of the far right (if not more).

I'm not giving you any smack here, you're a cool dude, it's just something I am legit curious about. If you are gay (strike 1), part hispanic (strike 2), part middle eastern or arabic or whatever (strike 3) and look like the latter (strike 3 redux), you're pretty much everything the right hates in one package, all you need to do is date a white girl and be rich OR be on wellfare in order to give them a heart attack just by walking by. Yet some of your posts here are downwright.... alt righty.

Wouldn't even matter really. None of the videos distinguish between radical Islam and just being a Muslim. Replace the video titles with "white" or Christian.

I'm well aware of that - back when I was still in University I regularly took part in debates on this issue (this was back when Christopher Hitchens was still alive though, so a while ago). I had to turn down about 4 interviews in one week because all bar 3 of them were flat out anti-gay and anti-immigrant (but were all too fine listening to me as long as I ranted against Islam). The last radio station I did actually attend and I called them out for it, to which they never aired the interview.

I don't like either one of them, too many people get caught up in one side or another, rather than sitting on the fence (oh such a dirty term...) and then deciding after you've seen it all, what your opinion is (rather than just defend something blindly because it matches whatever political affiliation someone has).

It's not nearly that simple, it just isn't. I would be very interested to see quotes of my alt righty posts however. This sounds like the usual drivel spouted off by people when they disagree and can't articulate anything substantive. Hell, next I'll be called a Milo wannabe or a troll just because people have a political disagreement.
