There have been a very large number of shootings like this since Trump took office. Furthermore Trump fuels racists and hateful people fairly commonly. Ergo the psychotic subsection of the group feel empowered and we have more shootings.

They did seem to be rising under Obama already, so I'm not saying correlation is definitely causation. Though I think a case could be made that there were certain bad feelings that a black man was president.

I don't blame Trump, I blame American society and Republican leadership. This problem was here well before Trump and if anything, Trump is simply just another symptom of it.

This has been happening for years. They feel empowered? I think you're reaching there. It's an unfortunate reality we live in now, but people like these shooters have always existed and, likely, always will.

Sure they have existed for years, but they have grown more and more active over the last 20 or so years. You'll never stop the occasional psychopath from getting through, but you can certainly make people feel more paranoid on average and of course manipulating people's fears is a common tactic for people with no moral scruples.

I actually hadn't until you said something because I was just killing a couple minutes between things I had to do. The guy isn't a copycat or serial killer, he had a hostage so the situation was very different.
