Weak. The lightning bolts are specifically associated with ss2 and using Napa to dismiss that is laughable. You're going so far back in the series early days when the Saiyans design choices weren't even solidified yet. Does Vegeta have brown or black hair? Well if we watch some early DBZ then we'd see Napa with lightning aura and Vegeta with brown hair and green tinged armor. Considering that characters and power ups have become fairly standard since the Saiyan Saga, I'm gonna go ahead and just label Napa as an outlier in terms of design. And don't forget, these designs are coming from a dude that had managed to completely forget Launch's existence between writing DB and DBZ, as well as routinely forgetting to include many side characters in multiple group settings near the end of the series. How often did Baba and Chiaotzu even show up DBZ and how relevant were they to the plot? Shit happens when Akira Toriyama is writing, like him forgetting characters and being wishy washy on details.

And while we're on character details, they serve a pretty important function in determining their power states. I mean, you remove all color and those pretty important details then how can you tell when Vegeta is ss1, ss2, ssgod, or in base form?

Have some clips to demonstrate? Cause the only thing I've seen was one attack performed by Buu having lightning, and only around his hands as he's charging; which isn't the same thing as lighting appearing around the whole body as if in super saiyan 2. Pretty weird how consistent the lightning thing is once super saiyan 2 gets introduced, almost as if it's used to indicate super saiyan 2 and nothing else.
