so I get to upgrade either my stamina wheel or a heart container right now, which one is best for the first upgrade?
I know the master sword requirement since the manual tells you about it, but it also mentions respeccing so i'm not too worried

Stamina imo, if you like to explore it's essential

I went ahead and grabbed the stamina, I do see why it'll be more useful especially with the hearty meals

anything I should do before leaving the Great Plateau?

If you didn't get the Warm Doublet, you may want to look for it, but overall the only thing you need from the Plateau is what you're forced to get already.

You don't really get "recipes" in this game. You just throw shit in a pot. Just follow the cooking rules.

1 buff per dish (i.e. don't try to make something that resists cold and heat), don't use any monster parts for food. They are for elixirs only.

You can add a fairy to almost anything to increase the hearts restored.
