For those who don't know, they're 3 of the biggest Youtuber "gamers" on the internet with millions of subs between them who put out comedic video game content that is similar to one another.

And the other thing they have in common is that the internet collectively did what the British call "Going off on one" where for a 2 minute hate that lasted a month, everyone hated them for suspciously inoffensive reasons.

AVGN: Said he wasn't going to see the Female Ghostbusters because the trailer looked bad.
Jontron: Questioned the idea of open boarders and illegal immigrant acception.
Angry Joe: Said he was going to do more movie reviews and less game reviews.

All three lost many subs, were abused, had their addresses and their friends adresses made public, sent threats including death threats, had their content marked as faslely inappropriate just to try and fuck with their earnings.

Being labeled many things, sexist Nazi crimminals being the kindest.

All three handled it in different ways.

AVGN ignored it entirely, intentionally or not this was very smart and the rage died down fast due to nothing spreading it.
Angry Joe pouty faced and apologized. Dumb move which just fed the flames for an extra month
Jon went dark and stayed in a locked room for several months, showing it got to him made the hate continue longer than anyone else.

And in all 3 cases the internet moved on the second a new shiny thing passed by to be outraged about for a few weeks.

Now the entire saga has passed into the footnote history of bored fat people, do you think the Internet owes them an apology for the crazy overreactions?

Is it fair to just casually expect it to be okay to harras and bully people as a fad because "that's the internet" or do you think we should strive to be better?

Do you think they even deserve an apology? Or should they get even more hate?

The attack on James Rolfe was stupid. There have been multiple remakes I've passed on because I knew they wouldn't stand up well next to the original. Seriously though, I'm glad that spiteful marketing campaign failed. People should've been guilted into seeing a bad movie under the threat of being accused of bigotry.

Is a person racist for not watching the Robocop remake? Yeah, that's it. Nobody cares that it lacks the violence of the original or that Robocop himself looks like a cellphone. They're just mad because a black guy gets to be the boss instead of the corporate yes man. Go see that movie... unless you're too busy attending a Ku Klux Klan cookout.

I saw some of it but I was drunk and high and I only remember some of it. I don't think I finished it. The guy who plays Robocop was really good on the show The Killing.

The Jontron/Destiny thing was just two people who suck at debates getting flustered and giving kneejerk reactions as responses without properly considering their words. It happens all the time in arguments. The main difference is that the audience for the debate was one that would more likely side with Destiny on a broader ideological level, so Jontron is the one who got the lion's share of the shit.

Indeed. There are two kinds of creators: Those that create content to attract a certain demographic, and those that create their own content, and let people find it on their own. AngryJoe has what made him successful, but he wanted to do something different. He should have done the different thing, without the theatrics, and let the subscriptions fall where they may. Do what you want to do, not necessarily what is the best financial decision.

Actually in the case of AVGN thats exactly what happened.

The AVGN "controversy" flew over rather quickly, he just continued to make videos and ignore the media about it. For Jontron, I have to say he did deserve some of the backlash for what he said, but not to the extent of people doxing him and harassing him with death threats. Angry Joe didn't deserve his backlash, because he doesn't owe his viewers shit. However, the way he handled the situation was just flat out stupid.
