Not unless you want to.

Just don't play 4 first... or 3 and NV will become obsolete.

I would however recommend playing 3 before NV, since NV is an upgraded version of 3.

Ive played enough of 3 to know I hate it. And ive played enough of NV to know its a much better game that Im capable of enjoying.

4 in no way makes NV obsolete. It actually makes you look at NV and wonder why 4 isn't more like it. Also fuck 4 and the building shit.

to each their own I suppose. I enjoyed 4 far more than I enjoyed NV; (if for no other reason than) 4 actually ran flawlessly on my machine where as I had unbelievably performance issues with 3 and NV.

But even story-wise and gameplay wise, I personally enjoyed 4 far more. The enemies and "bosses" if you can call them that were far more exciting. I actually liked the characters. World was more interesting. Weapons and looting was a better, upgraded system. But thats JustMyOpinion

We can at least agree that NV blows 3 away.

i wouldn't say its mandatory, but NV does feel like a continuation of 2 in a lot of ways. some reoccurring characters, callbacks and gameplay re-introductions that were not in 3. its world design and take on atmosphere is also closer to 1 and 2 than in bethesda's offerings.

also if youre playing on PC and you mod it make sure you find a list of essential tech mods that help with stability. i recently did another run with a ton of stuff and i think it crashed on me twice in over 70 hours. very stable with the stuff they have out now.
