With my doctor and insurance provider(s)?

This whole thing has been kicking my ass for a week straight now, and I'm finding it hard to even get out of bed. I talked to a close friend about getting some medication and after ruminating on it for a while, I've decided to stop holding back and just take my medication. And what should I take? I've heard Zoloft is good, but there's another one I've heard about that apparently works faster (and it comes generic).

So... what do?

Have your general doctor recommend a psychiatrist and go tell them your symptoms.

Depression and Clinical Depression are different things - so there are different medications. Depression (without the Clinical part) is a symptom - not the problem. Finding the source of the problem is important in finding the right medication.

So here's some guidelines; I am not a Doctor - so ask your real doctor

1. Overly focusing on your problems until you collapse under their weight can be treated with OCD medications

2. Clinical Depression as a core requires a benzoid group treatment, such as Ativan

3. Non-depressive lethargy can be indicative of a non-depression related issue such as thyroid or pituitary problems - can be checked in bloodwork

Eeyup. Don't go in with "gimme the drugs, man," because that's both the wrong approach and a pretty flagrant drug-seeking behavioural flag that will get you nothing. If medication is the best option for you, your psychiatrist will be the one to decide that, as well as decided what your best option will be. Whatever happens, your doctor will know how to proceed from "I think I've been depressed lately" and a list of symptoms, so start there.
