African Americans have made many valuable contributions to sports, entertainment and civil rights.

As for music, their contributions were great at some point, e.g. Jazz, Rock and Roll, and Michael Jackson will forever be the King of Pop.

But as for rap and African American's contributions to music post 90's... they'd made it worse. And fuck rap.

There are some good rap songs alright, but for every good rap song there are 90 garbage ones.

Okay what

swing is a specific style of jazz. "big band" is a common instrumentation used to play it

white bands were more popular during the Swing Era, but they didn't invent that. they all got everything from black bands - the two biggest influences being Duke Ellington and Count Basie

swing grew out of Dixieland, which largely started in black communities in New Orleans.

early jazz has roots from a few different musical identities: the New Orleans funeral marches (they would parade down the street with brass instruments - coming from military brass bands + black spiritual music), blues (based, again, on black spiritual music), and ragtime (a synthesis of African syncopation and European classical music - ultimately, another style that was invented by black musicians)

there would literally be no such thing as jazz without black americans. by extension, there would be no such thing as "swing", and though it's possible that the "big band" instrumentation or something similar might still have developed anyway, the music played by such an ensemble would be completely different

I pretty much agree with this. Popular music would have taken a big hit for much of recent history... but on the flip side, it also wouldn't be nearly as undeniably shitty as it is currently
