"I don't believe in science," he told The Associated Press. "I know about aerodynamics and fluid dynamics and how things move through the air, about the certain size of rocket nozzles, and thrust. But thats not science, thats just a formula. Theres no difference between science and science fiction.

When Hughes launched in 2014, the intense G-forces and what looked like a rather shoddy parachute injured him quite badly; he needed three days to recover. Who knows how it'll go this time around, but it's safe to say it doesn't look hugely safe.

I believe in him!

But why doesn't he just buy a few plane tickets to fly across the world and ask his pilots to film each flight?

This can't be serious.

If the Earth is really flat, how are you supposed to go to space and what are you going to do there? Gravity would constant in magnitude, which means no escape velocity, and it would be constant in direction, which means no orbit.

Is he literally planning on just slingshotting himself up and coming right back down?

I'm guessing he just thinks "space = no gravity" like you do when you're a little kid.

The entirely (not literally read as >99%) of the Flat Earthers movement are trolling. Being deeply committed to a troll does not mean you actually believe it, holy fuck.

I get what they're trying to do, but I think it's doing a lot more harm than good. Unless it's even more meta than I thought.

The "r" in the gravitational force equations doesn't mean radius. It denotes the distance between 2 objects you're determining the force between. All objects with mass exert a gravitational force.

Well by flat, I'm also assuming infinite in area. Otherwise it wouldn't be flat. I guess he might think it's like a piece of paper or something.

Since the formulae for gravity and electric field are pretty much the same, the gravity of an infinite plane should be constant regardless of location.

I highly doubt they think that, as he would have dug a hole or something. I think we need confirmation of what they believe. Wiki says the conventional flat earth belief back in the olden times is that the Earth is a disc.

In any case, the strength of the gravitational force exerted would still weaken between an object with infinitely large area and the escaping object as the distance between the two increases. So yes, there would still be an escape velocity.

This is provided a center of mass. If something infinite in size even has one (philosophy!), I don't think it's been calculated. I would actually be interested in knowing if the electric field comparison holds in this case. Give me a minute to do some calculus.
