Just watched this.

Everything he does over the span of 8 episodes means nothing because he erases it all in the end. I mean, if you wanna watch an interesting journey, go ahead. But what a shitty twist.

It's a Stephen King novel. You should expect a shitty ending

I didn't bother finishing the show because it makes the main character such a giant dumbass, but the novel ended well.

He saves JFK, but Sadie is killed in the attempt. He goes back to 2015 (or w/e) with the plan to go back again so he can save Sadie and JFK. When he gets to the portal, a man with a green card in his hat is there; he's an agent tasked with protecting the timeline. . He tells Jake that going back and forth doesn't reset time, it creates multiple time strings which stretch reality. Too many strings and all of creation will fall apart. He lets Jake through to see what he's done and to reset the timeline one last time.

The future is a massive shithole:

- JFK doesn't push through the same civil rights laws that Johnson did. He gives up on the idea when certain Congressmen filibuster for over a hundred days, one of them even dying on the floor. This is compounded by MLK being assassinated by a former FBI agent working under Hoover's orders which sets off massive race riots. Chicago is burned to the ground and fires start in many other cities. Chicago is eventually brought to heel by JFK's successor, George Wallace.

- Distracted by the riots, JFK allows South Vietnam to fall to the North. This makes him massively unpopular and he leaves office as a hated figure. Wallace nukes Vietnam multiple times, wiping out Hanoi. Between the 60s and modern time, over 28 nukes were used in various wars.

- In the same year Wallace is elected, earthquakes start hitting the world. By modern times, they're almost routine. Scientists estimate that they'll rip the planet into a new asteroid belt by 2080. Jake believes they're caused by the past harmonizing with itself, the time strings pulling at each other.

- Various other bad shit. World suicide rate explodes. Middle East terrorists hit Miami with a suitcase nuke, turning the city uninhabitable for 80 years. The Gulf of Mexico is radioactive. A nuclear plant in Maine was hit with a quake that turned most of New England radioactive. The Beatles reunite in the 80s for a peace concert; a suicide bomber hits the place, killing hundred and blinding McCartney. The Middle East oil field are "black glass." Four of the Japanese islands sink into the ocean.

Jake resets the timeline and - after some deliberation on whether time could survive him staying in the past with Sadie - returns to his own time. He finds Sadie alive and well though still scarred by the attack from her ex-husband. She never married or had kids, but she did end up having a successful local political career. He comes to town during a celebration honoring her and asks her to dance. She doesn't remember him beyond a feeling of deja vu, asking him how they know each other. Jake responds, "In another life."

It's a nice, bittersweet ending. I wouldn't call it shit at all. How did the show fuck it up?
