These players are in the entertainment business, and their skills are worthless if no one is willing to pay to see them play. TV advertisers have already lost $500 million this year due to the decline in ratings. If players want to take actions that will turn off fans and cost the league hundreds of millions, that's far more important than winning. Every NFL players is replaceable.

I'm arguing that their form of protest is idiotic, and the fact that it's destroying business is justification for the teams to bring the hammer down. I don't have any problem with the players protesting racial causes, and the NBA players have done this several times without issue. But kneeling during the anthem completely overshadows the cause and just brings the ire on the players. It's both ineffective at getting people to talk about their issue (the only discussion is about the kneeling) and it's costing the league hundreds of millions.

Fair enough. Sometimes it sounds like people think it's morally wrong but then use the commercial side of things to justify why they think they shouldn't do it, i.e. it just sounds like they hate it and will look for any reason to stop it.

If anything, them getting fired might actually have a streisand effect on the whole thing.

Your HR department says you can get fired for hurting someone's feelings.

That being said, these players are under contract, and I highly doubt that there is a clause in these players' contracts stating they can be fired for not standing during the national anthem.

Ergo, no, they shouldn't be fired, since they legally CAN'T be fired.
