Well I'd argue that Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is beyond "good" and usually well-executed, but I think ChunSoft did most of that so it's an irrelevant distinction.

I am curious myself as to USUM's story. Hearing praise for it when the community routinely bashes the series is interesting.

I still think that while it was better than pretty much any core Pokemon game up 'till then, compared to other big-name RPGs it fell short to me at least. Still, it does represent a sort of improvement as well and hopefully they further improve on that.

This. Gen 5 has been the only main series Pokemon game where I would consider the story good.

But yeah, the Mystery Dungeon games have amazing stories, way beyond the main series.
