No news network has picked up this story i think, but if she is really interning for congress, something might happen

Also Belgium is looking at pass legislation on lootboxes
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-11-16-star-wars-battlefront-2-loot-boxes-investigated-by-belgian-gaming-commission

This Battlefront thing is really blowing up on EA, they fucked up big time.

Nothing will come of it. As much as it's shitty, EA is a business and you can't really expect them to turn down easy profit. If gamers lack the discipline to not waste money on that shit it's their fault

The government should provide assistance for those that can't afford loot boxes

If a skeeball machine that gives out tickets that you can exchange for prizes counts as gambling the lootboxes are like quadruple gambling

Excuse me, at least in Japan you need to go to next door to exchange those trinkets for prizes.

I would say EA trying to get kids to gamble their parents money away is a real problem.

Aren't loot boxes similar to things like Pokmon cards? I'm not quite sure what the difference is that would make one gambling and the other not gambling.

Yes and no
The big argument i have been hearing, with TCG you are getting something physical, so it inherently has value, while something that is digital has no real world value.

Also, the market sets the price of each card in the pack, not the manufacture.

When you buy loot boxes, you are essentially gambling on things have have no value outside of the game, if at all, and if they have any in game value, that value is set by the publisher.

and which is what prompted a whole hell of a lot of people to get refunds for it, so much so that EA actually made it so you have to call them if you want to cancel your preorder of it.

Eh, the companies actually need to be extremely careful about admitting that the cards actually have monetary value because it could very, very easily be considered gambling.
There's a reason why they always have to say things like, "there's a high demand for X card, which is why we are reprinting it".

They can claim legal ignorance on the secondary market.

Exactly. First off, it's instilling a gambling mindset in children.

Secondly, I don't think people realize how many bank disputes are filed over videogame charges; whether it's the parents not recognizing the charges and claiming as fraudulent or the parents knowingly claiming ignorance and pretending it's fraud, Visa or whomever your bank's credit/debit card providers are paying for those 'fraudulent' charges if they can't prove fraud. Or if they can, your bank still wastes resources paying dispute departments to conduct unnecessary investigations. That's what your credit card company means by zero liability.... they assume the risk. I realize most people are like f the bank, but increased expenditures are ultimately going to be passed onto the consumer whether it be higher fees, lower interest rates, or less benefits.
