I used to have a dog, and while he was great, I wouldn't give up my entire world for the dog.

For example, one girl I know, she needed to move somewhere, and another friend offered her a place. Great price, location, they were friends etc, but she didn't move there because apparently her cat might not get along with his cat. I think that's so fucking stupid. If I NEEDED a place to live, you can bet I'd be willing to give up a pet in exchange for a roof over my head.

One of my current roommates (who's also one of my really good friends) and his gf have two cats, and I noticed I started getting cat allergies that are just getting worse over time. I tried to deal with it on my own, thought it wouldn't get worse, stayed in my room, etc, but my allergies ARE getting worse over time and I feel like I'm trapped in here. I brought it up to them, and after a very understanding talk, he told me that they'd leave with the cats if they absolutely had to, if none of the compromises we came up with helped my allergies.

Obviously I have to respect his decision, but truthfully, I just can't believe he's willing to give up a dirt cheap (by almost pure luck we're paying almost nothing to live here), large house, great location, etc, just for two fucking cats. I even suggested like, do you know someone that likes cats where you could give these two cats to, and you could just go visit them? And he's like, that might be a possibility but we (him and gf) dont know anyone mutual like that so it'd be hard.

Meh, idk. Pets are nice but I can't see prioritizing them over basic needs.

They'd rather hang out with their cats than you. Let that sink in TC.

Us 3 aren't the only ones that live here. We have another roommate too that's also a mutual friend between us, so your memeing aside, he's prioritizing two cats over two friends ultimately.

My cats are like my children. Id never abandon them for anything.

Also, cats cant just get thrown into a new home with others cats just like that. It can have a deep psychological impact on them. They are far more territorial than dogs.

This chick I know was homeless all summer because she couldn't find a place that would allow her to have her dog. So she went 'camping' and lived in a tent from July until about 2 weeks ago. The whole time whining about how nobody cared about her and that she would freeze to death because of us. I'm like, "You don't even care about yourself as much as you do your dog. How are we expected to help you if you won't compromise?"

Her response was, "I can't live without my dog." So I told her she might die with her with that attitude. I even tried telling her she was mistreating her dog by not taking care of herself, but she kept saying, "My dog eats better than me EVERY DAY!" She just didn't get it.

Since she found a place she hasn't said a single thing about Nessie. People are ridiculous.

That said, I love my cat. @ me bro!

Animals and humans can form very strong bonds.

This really isn't that weird.

You care as much about your cats as you do your own kids? Wtf

One doesn't get pets just to eventually get rid of them.

This isn't "just" getting rid of them though, there's quite a bit at stake here. Plus people put their pets up for adoption all the time.
