The wife and I have been into watching horror movies before bed lately. Within the last few weeks we have watched the following

It Comes at Night - Awful. I wouldn't even call it horror. More of a suspense film imo
Don't Breathe - Awesome, kept me on the edge of my seat
Lights Out - Pretty good. Reminded me of Mama in some ways
The Conjuring - Wife liked it, I thought it was boring(possibly because she grew up catholic and I've never really found religious horror scary or entertaining)

I'm not really a fan of slasher flicks or movies that just have jump scares, but I really enjoy a lot of paranormal and science fiction horror flicks, along with anything that is scary and cerebral. It Follows is another one from recent years I enjoyed, and I tend to like Guillermo Del Toro horror flicks as well, although I think I've seen all of those. You're Next and Cabin in the Woods were both fun, in a deconstruct the genre kind of way.

Thanks team

From the Dark is great, it's about a vampire playing a game of cat-and-mouse with a couple in the Irish countryside. Unlike other vampires, *all* light harms it so a lot of the film involves vampires trying to get rid of light sources and the couple trying to find new ones.

Circle is incredible, but linear. It's a wake-up-in-room scenario where every 90 seconds, the group has to pick somebody to die or they all die. Ending is a little flaky, though.

The Void is pretty neat, *and* it has Ellen Wong (Knives Chau). The only downside is the pointlessly confusing backstory for some of the characters. Conceptually, it reminded me a bit of In the Mouth of Madness and Lord of Illusions.

And I know I've recommended Late Phases to you like a dozen times, but I'm not sure if you watched it.

Then stay away from Last Shift, it's like 90 minutes of jump scares

Then you might also enjoy Satan's Little Helper -- a slasher-comedy where a boy decides to help a costumed figure he thinks is Satan (not realizing the costumed man is a serial killer on a rampage) -- and the Hatchet films (which are a goofy 80s throwback)

+1.

Oh, speaking of, Plus One is a neat scifi horror. It's about a group of graduating high schoolers at a party where a strange event creates dopplegangers for everybody, both of which view themselves as the real people.

So last night we ended up watching Conjuring 2(yay marriage). I thought it was pretty boring and I really lost interest when a lot of the scares started to be CG focused. She liked it though.

Tonight we were going to watch Session 9(she wasn't in the mood to watch an "old" movie so no Thing or The Fly) but we couldn't find it available to stream on anything

So we ended up watching Blair Witch 2016 which I though was actually very good, I recommend it if you enjoy the found footage genre of horror films.

I'll second Cube and 28 Days Later. Cube 2 and Cube Zero are more of the same, if you dug the concept.

A bunch of these aren't strictly horror, but are movies I enjoyed that have elements of horror.

The Descent
Green Room
Housebound (Horror/Comedy)
Krampus (Actually kind of tame, but it's a fun Christmas-themed horror movie)
Buried (2010, more of a psychological thriller, but the concept is unsettling)
Sunshine (Sci-fi with horror elements)
American Psycho
The Gift (2015, more of a suspense movie, but kind of creepy)
The Babadook (Although I found the kid to be ANNOYING, I thought Essie Davis was great)
Dark City (kind of a stretch, but it has a great gloomy atmosphere)
Donnie Darko
Battle Royale
We Need To Talk About Kevin (Even though I don't like Tilda Swinton that much, the performances are pretty unsettling)
Let Me In (2010)
The Machinist (I need to rewatch this, actually)

Horror dump. A few of these are going to be obvious, but I'm aiming to hit most of the best ones here:

Dead Ringers
The Brood
The Fly
Videodrome
Suspiria
The Shining (1980)
The Thing (1982)
Coraline
Eraserhead
Straw Dogs (1971)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
Fright Night (1985)
Peeping Tom
Psycho (1960)
We Need to Talk About Kevin
It Follows
Perfect Blue
The Wicker Man (1973)
Green Room
Deep Red (1975)
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
The Mist
May
Society

with subtitles:
The Skin I Live In
The Cremator (1969)
Tetsuo, The Iron Man
Audition (I wouldn't really say it's horror myself, but most do)

Hmmm, interesting. I thought that the CG was so laughably bad that it made it even scarier when they didn't show stuff or left you in suspense. Tbh, the Nun scared the heck out of me.

Paranormal Activity( the first two were pretty good. The rest of the series is hot garbage)
Woman in Black(only saw the first one)
Babadook(really well liked, though I hated it)
Insidious(the first one)
The Witch

Though take my recommendations with a grain of salt. I thought the Conjuring movies were great.

If you like parody movies like Cabin in the Woods, I would recommend:

Tucker and Dale vs Evil
Club Dredd
Netherbeast Incorporated
Scary Movie 3
