Im gonna say yes. The Switch is a little miracle machine, which actually ties into this joke question:

My job has an awkward 90 minute break in the middle of most of my days. The fact that Ive been able to use that time to grab a bite and then make good progress in the biggest 3D Mario to date is just really, really cool. Especially if youre into Mario Kart, Zelda, and other Nintendo IPs, yes, its worth getting a Switch for.

You mentioned liking 64 more than the 2D games. Im with you and while there are brief 2D sections in Odyssey, the vast majority is a love letter to N64 era games like Mario 64, DK64, and Banjo.

Its hard to guess, but I put in a loooot of my free time since it launched on 10/27. I dont think Ive played any other games in that span. Really had me hooked and still took me quite a while.

The campaign itself, if you were to rush through and only get the minimum requirements to progress, takes no time at all. However, thats seemingly by design so all ages can beat the game, while the sheer amount of NON-required content is pretty absurd. I dont know for sure, but Id guess you need somewhere around 250 moons to beat the game, but there are 880 in total. Theres a TON of postgame content even if you ARE clearing out every level completely as you go like I did. If you rushed through the story and then went back... postgame would probably be like 75-80% of your playtime. Its a ton.

(postgame spoilers) Mushroom is amazing, but I also loved Cascade, Sand, Ruined, Metro, Snow... and thats narrowing it down. I guess Id go Metro or Sand with a gun to my head.

I routinely changed it up to fit the area I was in, but I love the Pirate look.

I gotta say, I think this is one of my favorite games Ive ever played. Once youve played so many, its always oversimplifying to say best ever!!! but it would make a fairly short list.

Its the Disney World of video games. The pure love, joy, and attention to detail that went into making a nearly flawless experience with something for all ages is just remarkable. Fittingly, keeping with the Disney World analogy, if theres one criticism to be leveled, there could stand to be a few more edge of your seat thrill rides. There are some, but wouldve liked just a few more memorable levels that really mugged me.

So, so good though. Man. As I was clearing through each kingdom for the final time, I was genuinely like aww man :/ knowing I was leaving for good (the souvenir shops are such a genius touch for adding to that sentimentality). Then, having saved the biggest endgame challenge for last, when I finally had it at my fingertips, I stared at it for 30 seconds because I didnt want the game to be over. Really got me all sentimental.

For me, Odyssey started off great and has continued to get better throughout my playthrough. It's still getting better and I'm at 400+ moons.

And I like how the controls are 'easy to learn', but have intricacies that you master while you play.

Through my main story playthrough, I rarely ever put much effort into the controls. I knew how to do the jumps and such, but I didn't do anything fancy.

I remember there was one moon that was IMPOSSIBLE to get to on my first run. I could tell where I was supposed to go, but I just had no idea how to get over there because even my best attempt at jumping over wouldn't get me anywhere close.

So then, I come around to the post-game and get to that spot again, and just instantly bound over the huge gap like it ain't shit.

Learning the game and gradually experiencing more and more of what it has to offer has been amazing for me.

I agree, definitely the best 3D Mario hands down. I'm well into my 2nd file after nearly 100%ing my first one. All I have left is some of the master cup races and some of the hard as fuck dark side moons to get on my first file.

Thats a great post. Some of the perceived lack of difficulty definitely comes from after youve truly mastered moving Mario around and doing tricks with Cappy. Like, Ive heard some people have issues with the Koopa Races, but I cant think of one that took more than two tries because I was just very adept at moving Mario.

Yeah I don't understand why people bash on this race.

Is it just coz they don't know how to do the jump at the end and can't beat golden koopa?

Also, I only play in handheld mode, so when something is impossible to get without motion controls, I notice.

And I've come up with clever ways to get some moons that were designed to be gotten with motion controls. Had to squeeze a little extra out of the non-motion mechanics to get it, etc, where it would be easy with the motion.

Those are the only 3 moons where I had to switch to joycon tabletop mode.

No you can't shake the tablet for motion controls. They probably could've let you, but they chose not to, likely to prevent you from dropping it.
