the mirror universe is a concept in quite a few of the shows, where humanity
then there are your stock alt-universes where things are different depending on the episode. there's a few of those episodes, none nearly as in-depth as the mirrorverse and then there's the JJ movies, which takes place in an alternate universe created by a red matter explosion --- ... What Im hoping is that it doesnt go into this whole alternate trek universe thing but that it somehow delves into them finding a new way to explore space

Where did they end up? Or when??! Welcome to the world of cliffhangers, lol. Probably parallel universe (mirror universe) as seen by the ship literally splitting in two (quantum superposition, and as suggested by engineer dude's earlier scene of mirror world. From a "canon" standpoint this lets them get very creative with the storyline and feature elements of other Star Treks without needing a drop of continuity. All in all it's very "convenient" since this means they can drop the entire klingon war arc and are set up in a brand new location/universe where they will obviously encounter some multi-episode conflict they'll get to resolve after several episodes only to, at the end at the season, probably do the exact same fucking thing and once again warp to god-knows-where and repeat until quality and viewership drop to execution levels. If they somehow start interacting with the Q continuum I am out. On the plus side, lady admiral and klingon girl are now shipmates, and I suspect with engineer dude having spore-induced glaucoma he'll be having less screentime. --- Remember that I won't rest, 'til we share the same tense Just know, to me, you're better late than never again. ...
