Windows Updates has downloaded 7GB worth of data in the past week.

And it's not even done yet!

Are you downloading several completely new OSes to my system or something, Microsoft. Because Windows 10 is only a 3GB download on its own.

Oh, and good job using almost a tenth of our monthly data cap this month!

I know it fucked up your internet and all, but c'mon, Windows knows what's best for its users. Let it do its thing and be happy that it just works.

Yup. 100 GB monthly cap. We can go over, but it costs extra.

Yeah, you're right. Why would I ever doubt our Microsoft overlords.

I don't mind Windows Updates. With Windows 10 it's normally pretty nice and out of the way.

What I do mind is that it had to basically redownload it 4 times because it never told me about it and I kept restarting my computer, among other things, to try and get the internet to work. And for some stupid reason, they don't know how to save the progress of a download like basically everything else these days.

On top of that, when I was using the computer, (almost whenever it was on) it would throttle the download just enough that it would make minimal progress, but not enough that the internet was actually usable.

Had it said anything about the 4 GB update, I could have just left my computer for a couple hours so that it could download at full speed and I could get on with my internet usage without troubles. Which is what I ended up doing once I actually figured this all out.

But instead they left me uninformed, jammed up the internet, and didn't save the progress of the download to jam it even more as well as use 4-5 times as much data as it needed.

I didn't. I restarted my computer a couple times after I noticed there were updates, and every time the download percentage had reset. And I'm fairly certain that it wasn't an actual 12 GB update (Literally 4 times the size of the Windows 10 download itself) which is what shows up in my data usage.

oeiVmxv

Edit: I should have clarified, it had the exact number on the end every time I updated - 1709.

And look, it should have been just 4.4 GB.

Windows updates are cumulative. You dont have to download previous ones. Only the current release.

not in my experience.

regardless, windows knows how to save the progress of a download. they have since XP.

Then how do you explain that 12 GB data usage? That would require me missing updates back farther than a year, and I manually check for updates at least once a month. I'm also fairly certain it would have also need a restart back from the major update last fall before it could install the major update from last spring which I think would have been required for this update. Otherwise, it would have only needed this one which means that there is literally no reason whatsoever for it to have been 12 GB as no other updates really ever over a few MB.

And by the way, XP only saved the progress of an update if the update was completely finished downloading.

because with windows 10, microsoft switched to a p2p style, which means you're sending other people the update, too.

i don't know if the usage logs also add in what you've uploaded.

Nope. I have that disabled.

Tafiyap

Edit: Oh, but looks like you can no longer disable it in this new version. But on the bright side, I can limit it to use a max of 5% of my bandwidth and only 5 GBs a month and I can also actually choose how fast Windows Updates download.

Hm. Only 51 MB, so I guess it doesn't count stuff from before. Regardless, I know for a fact that I had it disabled before.

SQVjUBD

It's actually been off since I installed Windows 10 back when it was released.

Not to mention I can upload at a maximum speed of 100 kB/s, it would have needed to be uploading fast enough that the internet was literally unusable in order to cover the other 8 GBs in the past week to have the system data usage to go from 400~ MB that it normally sits at.

Why don't you go check your data usage details. I'm absolutely sure you have faster internet than me, so surely you would have uploaded more.
