I never said you supported EA.

Just that EA could benefit from my comments, ie they're pro-EA, ie semantics.

I know long posts of misdirections, accusations and ad hominem are your signature style, but I feel you should know you're really just wasting your time with them here.

I think you're pissy that you're predictable, and you're desperate to combat the image that you've painted for yourself. I don't know why either, it's not like it hurts your reputation or PotD is gonna hold anything against you. Nobody here gives a shit.

Look, the reason people are pissed about having to grind 40 hours to unlock the two main characters from star wars is because they also expect people to pay 80 dollars first, and then do that. I mean if EA wants to put free to play models in the game, the game should be free to play.

This kinda ruins one of my favourite modes, Heroes vs. Villains. :/

If you don't have beef with EA and want to pay for their products, then that's on you. I think the issue is folks who continually complain about a company but then turn around and pay for their shit.

i'm mainly ragging on the thousands (maybe millions) of people bitching about EA, especially over the lootbox controversy, who post endlessly about how terrible they are as a company... ...and then pre-order battlefront 2 special edition, ok?

You can unlock Darth Vader through normal play, its just a grind. Apparently, these whiny children feel like just because you have the option to pay a premium for unlocks, that youre somehow forced to? I dont get it.

The issue is that, as much as they'll say it's just an option, the publisher doesn't want it to be optional, and will do as much as they can to take that choice away without actually doing so. The whole philosophy behind microtransactions relies on making players want to spend more money on the game. Some companies do this by just making a good game and relying on people who love the game choosing to support it (Path of Exile does this quite successfully), while others do so by making the base part of the game grindy and obnoxious to encourage people to pay money to speed the process up. This is an example of the latter, where the game is actively made worse for people that don't pay extra, and that's just a dishonest, underhanded way of trying to squeeze money out of players.

Toss in that this is on top of a game that people already paid a perfectly reasonable price for (EA does not need to nickel-and-dime customers to make money off of Star Wars. Period.), and the backlash is pretty reasonable. This is the sort of psychological manipulation that belongs in a F2P game, not one that people already dropped $60 on only to find they got a quarter of a game.

It'll happen, and EA will ease off on the model and find some happy medium where the base game is good enough to not alienate too much of the fanbase, while still allowing them to take money baths on the backs of the tiny handful of whales that provide the vast majority of the microtransaction revenue. As it stands, a lot of people feel that it's okay if they buy the game but just don't buy the microtransactions if they don't like them, which is exactly what the publisher budgets for. When the basic game gets unpleasant to play if one doesn't buy microtransactions, though, people do actually stop buying the game altogether, and the publisher will be expected to ease up on them.

They do, but I don't see it going too much further. A lot of the shenanigans they've pulled so far have been relatively subtle, such that consumers that don't regularly discuss games aren't likely to really notice a problem (even if every single person that says they'll boycott EA actually chooses not to buy the game, I'd be surprised if that results in even a 10% loss of profits, especially where those players would have ignored the microtransactions anyway). Locking Darth Vader behind a paywall/40-hour grind, however, is pretty blatant. That's going to rub more than a few people the wrong way once the game hits shelves (they won't have heard of it before then), and may actually go so far as to hurt this game's microtransaction revenue (even whales are going to balk at paying for Darth Vader) and/or result in a premature decline in the online community.

It'll still be less than a million, and most of those aren't people that would be buying microtransactions anyway, so EA cares subtantially less about them.

It's about to cross -400k downvotes. There is most certainly some botting situation going on here, but, still, the more downvotes and publicity this situation gets, the better.

And, no, I am not going to buy this game. Not in a sale, not when it goes down in price, even if they remove the p2w model, I am not going to spend a cent on this game. Giving EA money feels immoral at this point. While the actual game looks incredible, the politics and controversy surrounding it have completely killed any desire to actually purchase it. It's a shame too because the people that spent thousands of hours designing and programming it are the ones who are going to hurt the most from this. But they weren't going to get the recognition for their work anyway.

Not entirely directly related but the King of lard and lootboxes put out a Jimquistion today about lootboxes and how he held Activision-Blizzard (and Overwatch specifically) to be primarily responsible for the rapid influx, and how the problem is going to get progressively worse as we keep lowering our standards for what we consider a good deal.

Like, Overwatch had a huge controversy at launch over the boxes, and in the short time since it's gotten so bad it's hard to even remember why.

In general loot boxes are just a gimmick to extended gameplay, there is really no good side to them. Its just unnecessary

Overwatch was what let the industry know how much they could get away with loot boxes in AAA fully priced games. It was all downhill from there.

The yearly profits for Blizzard more than doubled the year they released their loot box games. The effort involved in making loot box content is much smaller than DLC or story content, yet the profits are so much higher.

It's a thing where people decide they like something or are part of a group, but rather than deciding if they want to continue liking someone or continue being part of that group based off if it still matched their preferences, they let the thing they like or a a figurehead of the group decide what they like as a member of that group.

The credits are from multiplayer games. There are challenges though that can be done. Not sure if those are single player but Id assume so. That gives a certain amount of credits. Dont know if theyll change that now that the hero coat has been adjusted.

Thanks for the info. I figured things will continue to change and more information will come out after the game comes out but I thought about preordering on Amazon but I might wait to see how the game is before buying it for him.
