They're making good strides with their hardware and OS stuff like BC but good god what the hell happened to their first party output?

At this point of the 360's life they had published Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Viva Pinata, Crackdown, Blue Dragon, Fable 2, Lost Odyssey, Ninja Gaiden 2, Halo ODST and Halo Wars,

At this point in the OG Xbox's life they had published Halo CE, Dead or Alive 3, Oddworld: Munch's Odyssey, MechAssault, Crimson Skies, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Kung-Fu Chaos, Fable, Conker Live and Reloaded and Jade Empire.

Now we're just getting talk from Spencer that they'll be acquiring new studios. Well wtf have you guys been doing in the last half decade? I can't even use the Don Mattrick excuse anymore because that guy got the boot years ago.

I still maintain that forcing studios to be stuck to specific IP's is the worst possible thing a first party studio can do. That Hong Kong heist game they cancelled sounds like the exact kind of title the Xbox One seems to be missing.

i'd take their current direction over first party exclusives tbh even if others won't.

ditching kinect for a traditional experience, slowly implementing improved BC, xbox play anywhere game sharing with PC and releasing games simultaneously with PC(even if you're forced to get them through the windows store).

slowly building a solid base is far more preferable than going all in on a few select games that can only be played on a proprietary system which is probably why the wii u is now completely dead in the water.

i'm waiting to see how their supposed netflix-for-games service turns out. anything would be better than sony's excuse of a game service and reselling emulated classics that just so happens don't work with the discs you already own.

The thing is none of that conflicts with making new games.

But maybe it is a budget issue under Microsoft. I have no idea. If they had those things and a killer bunch of exclusives they would be doing so much better. Weirdly enough I really don't see that much marketing for their Xbox Games Pass either. I'll be trying that out when I get the Xbox One X (I think the Game Pass goes on sale in a few days).

Why aren't more third party games coming out for Xbox? Like, why is Horizon Zero Dawn only on PS4?

It seems their focus is blurring the lines between console and PC gaming, rather than focusing on making 1st party content. Which ultimately could work really well for them long term, but it remains to be seen.

Yeah I'm one of the people that's totally fine with that. I don't care if a game is exclusive to Xbox and Windows 10. I think that's a pretty great thing.

But there just isn't enough coming from Microsoft even with this. They need to just publish some more damn quality games. I know they can do it.

I got Gears 4 with my graphics card and that game can be a damn hassle to install thanks to Windows 10 being pretty shitty so that kinda sucks too.

There are a few (Lawbreakers and Hellblade come to mind) but Horizon: Zero Dawn is a first party Sony game.

That's the sorta title that Microsoft is really lacking right now. Uncharted 4 really stole a lot of the thunder from Gears 4 and Quantum Break but this year they have nothing that really compares to Horizon and Breath of the Wild. I'll be surprised if Crackdown 3 ends up being good.

It's a shame because even something like a Halo RPG could be really neat. But their actual first party studios seem to be stuck on playing it really safe outside of Rare who have been hit and miss.
