I've never listened to his music before now, but I thought he was just an 80s rapper.

From what I've listened to so far it's very okay, kinda hit or miss, but it's cool that he branched out from his rap career and tried (and is still in the process of trying) something different.

He has been on record saying he prefers his metal music to his rap, actually. That's why he sticks with it. I like his metal - a little more raw than Living Color, but still pretty good stuff IMO.

Living Color was the mother-fuckin' SHIT, though, so I can't really knock a band for not being that good.

He's not a very good hardcore punk vocalist but he definitely has the energy and message.

I think I'll have to listen to a full album or two to see how I truly feel about them. Sometimes a band I didn't originally care for will grow on me if I listen to enough of their music.

Very few people are, so, again, I don't think you can use that against him.

Ice-T's a great example of right place/right time in music. He's good but he's mostly remembered because of how early he was in terms of West Coast gangster rap. However, if it wasn't him, definitely somebody else would've taken that spot.

Compare to Eazy-E, who was also really early in gangster rap, but who's also remembered from his late 80's music as just being really dope too.
