It absorbs all impact. We see him using it to cushion his fall from an airplane. Wouldn't hitting someone with it just result in zero energy being transferred to that person's face?

Think of it in terms of Newton's laws. For every action, there's an equal and opposite reaction. Cap's shield absorbs that reaction, but doesn't stop its own action.

This car is 100% death proof. Only to get the benefit of it, honey, you REALLY need to be sitting in my seat.

In other words, they need to be on the backside of the shield that Cap holds.

I found this movie on my mom's boyfriends iPod as a kid. I watched it cause the girls were hot and I saw the lap dance scene. Then right after that was the car crash scene and I was traumatized

It doesn't just absorb the energy.
Vibranium absorbs, stores, and redirects the energy.
Hence why Black Panther can pull crazy shit in his suit.

Imagine if someone punches Caps shield, then he throws it at you. You're getting the force of the thrown shield AND the punch. Shit is gonna hurt.

so can he just precharge it by jumping on it from high heights

Comic Book Physics. The same reason it can somehow rebound off stuff and all the other weird stuff it does.

If he wanted to. But it won't store the energy for long.
Because his shield is a Vibranium and Adamantium alloy, it's energy absorption is a little lower than standard Vibranium. But it's also damn near unbreakable and has much more to it's own weight.

The reason it rebounds is clear.
It hits the wall and absorbs the energy of the hit, the energy is then redirected to the point of contact causing the shield to launch away from the wall.

This.
In the Earth-616 universe, it is made by Vibranium in an experiment to create a new alloy.
Later attempts at recreating it fails, and they discover Adamantium because of these failed experiments.

Fair enough. Either way it isn't pure Vibranium, it has steel in the mix as well.
