I know it had some problems with the star getting hurt and stuff, but does the January release date mean it's garbage like all January release movies, or does it just mean that the studio knows nobody cares about this YA stuff anymore and they needed to find a place for what could be a decent movie to die?

It's not garbage because it's releasing in January, it's garbage because it's a Maze Runner movie

Probably both

It's probably garbo and the genre died a swift and quick death. So the jan dumping ground makes sense

Idk, I don't have high hopes. The first film wasn't great, I don't imagine the sequel is going to be better in any way. My wife reads the books so i'm sure i'll be watching it when it comes out.

Are the books any better? The movies (at least the first) started with a good premise (kids in a strange camp, this unknown maze around them), but once they revealed WHY the maze was there, the whole thing made no sense.

Yeah January are usually movies that studios dump to die. They're not expected to do well. It tried to run on the Hunger Games train, but the genre basically died out.

That's one of the biggest criticisms of the series, that the whole maze angle doesn't make much sense.

That's how I feel. It's interesting when they're in the maze, but once that's done, it all goes downhill. The first book is pretty good, but I had trouble getting through the next two.

the genre deserves better.

i can't think of another oversaturated genre trend that started out with a pretty huge bang and died a horrendously quick death as the dystopian YA did.

i still wanna watch ready player one and see if it can turn things around.

Its being released in January because that month is reserved for pre-pubescent fantasy book adaptations and derivative horror remakes.

Prepare for disappointment. It's less a story and more a "hey remember the 80s" sort of circle jerk. The book was mild fun but had little to no enjoyable structure and the characters are extremely bland. Also don't expect much dystopian stuff as it focuses almost completely on the in game world and how cool the 80s were.

In all fairness, I felt Divergent had the same problem (thought I've only seen the movies) - presents an interesting premise, but once the reason for it it brought up, doesn't make sense

I wasn't aware this series was still going. I assumed it went the way of Divergent and just died after the second movie.

It was supposed to conclude early last year but the star got injured on set and they had to delay it.
