I'm playing Scholar of the first sin. Level 70, breezing through the game mostly with a +7 estoc, 100 block shield. It's pretty boring and tame compared to 1. Really bad graphics, some of the bosses are hilariously unpolished -- seriously, some are basic enemies that only have big hp bars on the bottom.

When does it get good? A lot of the community seems to love it.

I don't think it's as bad as a lot of people make it out to be but it's definitely the weakest entry. The DLC has some good shit but yeah the bosses in the main game are really uninspired and hilariously easy.

So the DLC zones are amazing quality. The PvP is allegedly really good. And the FashionSouls options are one of the best.

You are playing with a rather "safe" build, and I find that once you are comfortable with the souls formula, it helps to be a bit more creative with weapon choices.

I never did honestly. DS1, DS3, and Bloodborne are the only ones I have really gotten into. Even Demon's Souls only kind of won me over.

The PvP is really good. Probably the best of them all. And the DLCs are great.

But the main game PvE is a steaming pile of horseshit.

I have never bothered with this so I'm stuck with the garbage I guess.

You're missing out man. Souls PvP is an unbalanced mess, but it can be a lot of fun.

After I got past the little hallway in the Forest of Fallen Giants; I was stuck there for a lil bit >_> Then I was like ah alright finally, and got to explore some more.

The first area though that I really enjoyed, even though it's all kinda self-contained was No Man's Wharf

Agreed. It's still a Souls game and a quality game too, but it's for sure the weakest. Which as many people point out can probably be attributed to the lack of the usual director who worked on every other title.

Once I started getting into the flow of SotFS (which was only my second playthrough of II).

In a weird way I may have enjoyed it the most. It felt the most memorable to me and it had this unique "cozy" and intimate feeling.

1 was definitely the masterpiece and it seriously struck me with awe every step of the way, but for some reason I didn't feel as engaged with the lore. People are always referencing things that I don't remember or have no strong recollection of despite experiencing almost all of the optional stuff. Perhaps it's because I was far more focused on not dying than the others, plus the fact that I never realized item descriptions were how the "story" is told until I played SotFS...

3 ended up being a letdown. It didn't have as much impact as the other games but it felt the most technically solid, as is usually the case with third entries.

It was maybe halfway through the Forest of Fallen Giants. I stopped using a shield and locking on to enemies, and started playing offensively. Basically, I played it like Bloodborne.
