I'm not Christian or Muslim and my family celebrates it. you know damn well Christmas has grown to a bigger Holiday in the UK and the States. its a fun excuse to get together with family and exchange gifts/eat good food/drink, etc..."why are non christians celebrating it!?"...they have for decades...why is it just now becoming an issue?

Christmas is just a western holiday. Sorry Christians but it is one everyone can celebrate with no religious connection to it

It still comes out of the West's Christian heritage, which it ignores at its own peril.

The Senate was a quasi-hereditary body, dominated by a select elite called patricians that half-mythically traced themselves to the founding of Rome, that was for a large part of its history unelected, had minimal formal legislative powers, ruled an Empire even though all of its members were associated with a single city, had life tenure, and governed mostly through the sheer weight of the wealth, prestige, power, and antiquity of its individual members and families.

Meanwhile the American Senate holds half the legislative power of the federal government, are (now) elected by the citizens of the states to represent their interests, and has four year terms.

You're right there's a lot in common.

I celebrate Christmas every year and think religion is poison. Funny how people pretend Christmas hasn't been primarily a secular, commercial holiday about people of all walks of life buying each other shit and pigging out on a nice dinner for many decades. Well, they only pretend when they want to be offended.

It's contrarianism without reason. As someone who hates multiculturalism, this is the kind of imagery, of different people uniting over common ground, that I want to see over the typical propaganda of all cultures being "separate but equal."

I'd rather have Muslims starring in Christmas commercials than crashing trucks into Christmas stores.
