The only problem I have with this is the idea of blanket banning people for life off a misdemeanor can be a bit harsh. At the same time, sometimes people get misdemeanors for really serious things.

Like the guy who did the Texas shooting? IIRC he had fractured his 18 month old stepson's skull and only got a misdemeanor for that. So someone like that should be banned (and was supposed to under US law, only it wasn't properly reported to the NCIS or whatever)

felony conviction, yes - but perhaps not indefinitely. im fine with 5 or 10 year suspension of 2nd ammendment right.
