Both companies are already working together on several projects, including a VR game, a Star Wars game, and "a new title in the Titanfall franchise."

EA announced the acquisition today, saying the move "builds on a successful publishing partnership" already in place between the two companies.

Respawn CEO Vince Zampella said the move "brings the resources and support" his company needs for its"long term success."

"We're excited to combine our strengths," he said of the acquisition.

In a statement on Respawn's site, Zampella said "there will be no layoffs or major organization changes" at Respawn, and games "currently in development are continuing as planned."

EA is paying $151 million up front for Respawn, with $164 million "in long-term equity" paid out over the next 4 years.

There's also a long-term consideration worth a maximum $140 million

...i mean this is one of those times when EA might actually HELP Titanfall. the games are already multiplayer focused. there wasn't even a singleplayer in the first game.

if anything my reaction to this is "wait, Titanfall wasn't already EA?"

Only thing I'd say to that is that the Titanfall 2 single player campaign was critically acclaimed and now who knows if they'll be able to do that again with EA

this is hilarious timing. I'm sure this was in talks before the Visceral thing and I'm sure that there are a lot of people working on their resumes right now.

I wonder if EA will officially move their shooters to a CoD like rotation, with Battlefield/Battlefront/Titanfall going in successive years. Or maybe they pump Titanfall 3 out in a year or two, West & Zampella retire to two beds of money, and Respawn become a Star Wars studio.
