Oooooh booooy

I dislike Dark Souls 1. Had a decent time with 2 and love Bloodborne. Giving 3 a shot just to round it out. Here we go. This topic might die at any time if my interest fades but I'm going to give it an honest try.

Starting as a herald. Female. Life Ring I suppose.

Think of the ashen estus as a mana refill

Using weapon skills, miracles, and sorcery (and a DLC throwing weapon) uses up "mana"

Ooh mana! I didn't even notice the bar. Thank you very much.

I beat ol Iutues or whatever his name was. His gross second form threw me but I got him. Got me a coiled sword. Says I can activate a bonfire warp but don't quite understand. Is it a one time thing?

The game wastes little time throwing difficult enemies at you. Just remember you can run passed many enemies, find a new bonfire, and go back if you have to.

I got beat up by a pack of skeleton guys. I tired to use firebombs but flopped. Oh well. I lived through it anyway and got back to the bonfire for a few levels up.

Also no Crystal Lizard yet m

The skelton guys are nothing. Beware the Lothric Knights and Pus of Man...

You should save your firebombs for Pus of Man, the large black blobs that spout from hollows.

Ah, okay. I shall hold onto them.

What does burning an undead bone do at the Firelink Shrine?

He was back in the cemetery. Right before you leave and go up the ledge to the first bonfire, there's a path off to the right.

And the bone shards increase the amount of health/FP your estus refills. You won't find one for a little while, but always burn them as soon as you can.

Increases the amount of Estus flasks you have. They are like gold, try to find them all.

Also, speak to the blacksmith in Firelink and allocate all your estus to gold. You wont need blues as much as gold unlesd you are playing as a sorcerer, faith, or pyro build.

Thank you for the information on undead bones.

I went back and got the Crystal Lizard to 1 HP and then got careless and died. This isn't the first time this game is gonna piss me off.

Also, it has that same problem Bloodborne had in where if the enemy goes out of your field of vision in a certain way you lose your lock on. In Bloodborne I just adapted and learned to not lock on so much and I guess I'll have to do the same thing here.

My mistake. The undead bone makes the estus stronger. Both are very important.

That just means it's infused with Deep. Each type of infusion has a different symbol in that spot.

Deep infusion is a flat damage boost, like Fire/Lightning infusion in DS1, meaning that it boosts damage and adds elemental damage (dark damage in this case), but does not scale with stats.

Yes. Its good early game because the increase in damage for deep and fire is flat just from leveling the weapon, you dont have to put any points in attack stats for a little while.

Eh, you should still be putting points in your attack stat, or you'll end up gimped when you eventually stop using the weapon

You can go quite a while before you need to switch weapons though. You can put a few stat points into health, endurance, and weight until then.

For at least the first playthrough, I'd highly recommend at least getting Vigor and Endurance to 20 before worrying about attack or spell stats. If you really need to, you can just redistribute stats a little later when you want a different weapon.

it has the best bosses and gameplay, and the designs of the enemies are dope.

Should I use some titantine shards to upgrade this deep Axe? Or anything? I'm just hoarding them for now.

I got to the church and obtained the Small Lothric Banner and then fought three Knights and got to what I assume to be the castle gates, where I was attacked by Vordt who kicked my butt in seconds.

I think he also poisoned me? This might take a while.

Also, do I get anything for beating the Winged Knight that's stomping around? I snuck around him for all the items but wonder if it's worth throwing myself at him for an hour to beat him.

He has a chance of dropping his halberd, but it's a low chance and you're likely nowhere close to meeting the requirements to wield it.

He also respawns, so there's that.

There's a boss in the next area that drops a transposing kiln when you kill it. You can give it to Ludleth in Firelink and he'll let you expend boss souls to craft their weapons and some other stuff.
