Filling out a job application for a hospital and at the end of typing in all of my stuff, I get hit with 120 questions of this stuff. Most of them are cake, like "I enjoy working with others to solve problems" or "I am very open-minded to changes in the work place." I strongly agree. No problem. I also think it's better to answer with the extreme of each answer (strongly agree as opposed to simply saying agree)

But then there are questions like these:
"No matter the nationality, most people are honest and trustworthy."

Even ignoring the first half of that sentence, the anxious part of me is thinking what if someone glances over this crap and thinks I'm so optimistic that I'm gullible? Strongly agree? I can't disagree or I'm a racist from the wording of that sentence. These are oversimplifications and it drives me nuts.

They could make everybody's lives easier by using variations of the sentence structure so they can still have an accurate gauge for consistency, but nope. Gotta be difficult. Maybe it's just me.

You're overthinking it. It's a pretty basic virtue-signal.

Nah you just need to answer what they want to hear dont overthink it. Compare the 2 sides of a question and answer to the side that is 'morally' correct.

It might sound like that from the amount of text in my post, but like 99% of it is straight forward. Agreed on that part. Just frustrating.

Pretty much, yeah.

I think my problem is that I look at everything objectively. I try to see every angle of it to the point that everything just starts looking like the same shit. Completing the survey isn't even mandatory but it helps expedite the application process.

All you need to do is figure out the intent behind the question and then answer in the most pleasing way. A question about nationality is most likely a backdoor way of asking about racist tendencies. While clearly not all nations have equally reliable citizens, political correctness is about pretending that all citizens are the same.

Meaning they'd make you do it later or something? idk, in general, a lot of "not mandatory" things are just HR's way of screening out less motivated candidates.
