As far as the audience can tell, the series isn't pulling any stupid supernatural shit by reviving John. His appearance in the movie is a flashback (which we don't really get until the very end of the movie).

Okay, hold on, I already know the plot of the saw movies is only there because an hour and a half of straight torture porn would be overkill. Nobody takes the plot seriously, we're just there because we like watching each new device do it's thing.

But anyway, new saw guy is the male doctor.
