My sisters dog used to like weed. Like some friends of hers used to partake and whenever they did he used to get as close as he can, and he even sniffed it out in peoples pockets.

This is my signature, there are many others like it, but this one is mine.
If you take 110% of what I say seriously then you're gonna have a bad time.

Your dog must have a great paying job

I don't know how much heroine costs exactly but I imagine most pets can't afford it

There is a study in which lab mice were addicted to cocaine and died because they chose that over food/water. Just something to think about.

when they are given a large environment with many other rodents to socialize with and activities to do, they intentionally ignore drugs to be social

addiction stems from isolation and escaping low quality lives

Interesting. Sounds like further evidence that supports psychosocial interventions for drug addiction. I'll read the whole thing right now. Obviously lab mice aren't a perfect comparison for humans but we can learn a lot from them.

it's a really great read, and the understood model of addiction is changing. It's not just chemicals or we couldn't have gambling addicts, porn addicts, etc. We'd also have nearly everyone given prescription opiates hooked but people that use medication as directed for pain do not turn to addicts.

This is also why decriminalization/legalization is so vital: when we ostracize and penalize addicts it further separates these people from society and any possibility of having a fulfilling life, and makes addiction issues so much worse.

Oh definitely. The view on drug addiction and treatment is very holistic. There are biological, genetic, and environmental factors at play. Thats why in treatment, all areas of concern need to be addressed. I think Portugal (I could be wrong) is one of the countries that has decriminalized drugs and things have been going fine for them. America has way more focus on incarceration as opposed to treatment.

I'm pretty sure if you get shooting heroin into a dog it would become chemically dependent.

It's common practice in drug sniffing dogs to put it in their food until they become addicted.

There are plenty of dogs that love alcohol.
My gf's last dog would even snub some of the lower quality beer.
