I am here sipping a tea made with a chai teabag. I can buy them from shops all creamed and sugared up and love them. I have a massively hard time trying to just drink them with the tea bags and hot water. I have currently two creams in this thing and it's still super bitter. I am forcing it down though.

I really don't want to add sugar into it. The cream is already bad enough.

That's odd. Tea is not supposed to be bitter. It could be the brand you're getting, or the way it's prepared. Have you tried store bought tea? Not pre made tea like Ice tea. But the kind where you boil the water and insert the tea bag.

If the tea is getting biter, you're steeping it way too long or its really old or something

Try green tea first. It's a lot less bitter than black tea(which isn't bad at all unless you steep it the whole time.. and even then it only really gets bitter at the bottom)

If it's too bitter it could be the water is too hot when you add it to the cup with the teabag in it.

You could also use a bit of honey to sweeten your tea. Just cut back on the amount each time you drink it. I used to find unsweetened tea disgusting but now that is how I drink it.

This sounds EXACTLY like me and coffee. I love tea - well, sweet tea, it has to be sweetened - but coffee ... no matter what I put in coffee it sucks. I still drink it though because holy hell 8 AM classes without it are hell.

EDIT - For the record, it's still the bitterness. If anyone cares, what I typically get is from Dunkin Donuts:

- Large iced coffee
- Caramel and mocha swirls
- Cream & sugar

If you got any suggestions that taste better I'll gladly try. >.>

-Steeped 5 minutes, yeah, not so strong now, but still bitterish. I mean, it took me a while to get used to seltzer. I guess this might be an acquired thing?

And I want to get into it because I know there are teas I like if prepared by a barista. It would give me more of a variety rather than seltzer and water. I need more drink options and don't want to go back to sugary drinks.

Tea should never be drunk with any creme or sugar additives. That defeats the purpose of a healthy drink

Did you add milk? Tea sucks without milk. You need to add some milk and when the colour turns medium brown then you are good to go.

Some teas can be very bitter. Especially cheap gunpowder tea, in my experience. No amount of delicate steeping or managing the water temperature will help with those.

Milk tea is a thing but it's kinda its own thing. Some teas can take a little cream but if the tea is high quality it's better to drink it plain. Same with coffee, really. You only reach for the cream if the drink isn't good on its own and needs help.

Mariage Freres sells some of the best teas I've ever had. They're more expensive but the difference is night and day when compared to something like Lipton.

I think my grandparents would sometimes put cream in their tea.

I don't. Though I rarely drink hot tea and when I do, it's always English breakfast/afternoon. OR...Peppermint tea.
