I know GameFreak has some weird boner for Steel type Pokemon, but they could at least try and be more subtle about it.

Steel got nerfed too. It no longer resists Ghost and Dark.

Steel got arguably nerfed. Yes, they can hit Fairy-types for super-effective damage, but most Steel-types are defensive juggernauts who would've probably much rather kept their resistance to Ghost and Dark.

This. It took until oras for lucario to see much use in OU.

The only steel type to come out ahead was mawile and that's because until oras they were definitely the strongest mega that wasn't mewtwo.

and that nerf was more significant than Steel type attacks being SE against Fairies

Steel being super effective against Fairy hardly even should be considered a buff when Fairy is the OP type.

I still don't understand why they thought it was a good idea to give Huge Power to a Pokemon with base 105 attack, a great defensive typing, solid defenses, and let's not forget that it can get off an Intimidate before Mega-Evolving so that it can virtually always set up a Swords Dance with impunity.

Just by virtue of the intimidate factor, mega salamence was a beast too. But at least you could still beat it with two ice beams from a water type since you couldn't ice shard after intimidate and the fear of fire blast.

Meanwhile like... Besides boosted mons, not much could even KO on a double EQ. And in the VGC rule set? Fuck. Reason enough to never bother with it because mega mawile and kanga were over centralized for good reason, followed by mega gengar because it had what over 150 sp atk?

Because it means I can beat your team of legendaries with ease because you have a crappy move set and stats.

170 BTW. Christ, mega gengar has such a high special attack. Makes me glad z moves helped balance things a bit in a weird way.

Mega Gengar wasn't broken because of its high special attack, but because it had Shadow Tag.
