He has no empirical grounds to even say that. The two are intrinsically linked. You cannot separate them. At best you can try to parcel out their independent influence through statistics, but it's a shitty argument. And again, prediction and screening haven't been the primary focus of psychology since the early days, around 1910-1920ish. I can do a really good job predicting many things about your life, if you gave me enough information. Doesn't mean I'm measuring a real or important construct.
