The ad did a pretty terrible of getting across the point unfortunately. But casual racism is a fucking epidemic in Australia.

pretty sure it's about casual racism in the workplace, Thing is, "casual racism" seems to mean "racism that is only detectable if you assume that every single perceived slight is because of race" Take an example they give in the video. Clearly they believe that not holding an elevator open for a black person = casual racism. It couldn't be that, in a similar scenario, the offending party just didn't notice that the black person was heading to the elevator. No, the only possible reason for a black person having to jog a little to catch an elevator is racism, and an official government agency must produce a commercial about it. I mean, even if the impetus actually was racism, if that is the extent of racism in the workplace then I think we can safely declare that there is no racism in the workplace. --- Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear. -George Orwell ... lowkey racism that goes on there everyday towards aboriginal people specifically. not saying racism is acceptable, but in a lot of places, especially rural australia, aboriginals commit the most thefts/assault etc by far. do some searches about what they do in kununurra for example. again, not saying racism is acceptable, but they aren't doing much to prevent it --- ... They're honestly treated like a different species. I'm not talking about some accidental sleight on someone trying to walk into an elevator. I'm talking about situations like being among co workers at a bar and an aboriginal person walking by and someone saying "fuck me, watch your bags" and everyone chuckling and acting like nothing weird was just said. Can you imagine someone saying that towards a black person in America among co-workers? Well it's fine in much of Australia. My fiancee works in Coles and has been told by her management (off the books) to watch out for any aboriginal people who come into the store because they're probably going to steal something. This is so prevalent that you couldn't even report every instance of someone saying it. You might jump on me for these being anecdotes, but it's hard to understate the negative attitude towards aboriginal people in Australia. This isn't merely a black/white issue. They are considered subhuman by no small amount of people. --- CE's Resident Scotsman. http://i.imgur.com/ILz2ZbV.jpg ... Copied to Clipboard!

I think what this ad attempted to convey (but utterly failed at) is how this kind of stereotyping carries over. This is a young professional woman just going about her daily life dealing with the same "kind of glue-snuffing, bag stealing junkie" attitude, which I think is definitely a problem.
