Disney wants 65% of profit from initial 4 weeks of next star wars film. 70% if Disney decides that a Movie Theatre breaks the contract. The last Star Wars flick wasn't even good. If you've ever wondered why you pay so much at the movie theatre for concessions, its because of dumbass film studios like this, gouging movie theatre businesses for all they have. We have enough star wars movies. I'd rather watch "The Movie Theatres Strike Back" and pay < $20 for a small popcorn. God I hope this movie is a disaster.

I wouldn't pay for concessions at the theater at all if my wife didn't insist on getting popcorn.

We typically sneak in candy and drinks though. I'd rather just sneak in a couple cheeseburgers than buy popcorn.

I don't go to movie theaters. I can't handle loud big screen immutable commercials. I had a brief anxiety attack last time over that shit. Luckily I was fine once trailers started.

Whats the typical opening week % for a film producer?

That's less than I thought that film companies got from movies to begin with. Movie theaters have always relied on concessions to be the vast majority of their income with the movie tickets themselves mostly going to the studios.

Apparently ~50-60%. So ~10% more for what may be the highest domestic grossing film ever is apparently outrageous.

I think they should only apply it to large-scale theatre chains(where they'll make all their money anyway) but it's their movie and their call.

10% is a significant percent, especially when something is projected to earn BILLIONS of dollars. That's huge.

Netflix?

Netflix is good, but it can't emulate the feeling of watching an old movie in a dingy theatre. Plus, Netflix doesn't have an all-encompassing lineup of old movies to view.

All the more reason to snatch it up. Hundreds of billions split between many theater or it all gobbled up by Disney.

Here's the deal though, those seats are going to stay filled, better 30% of the revenue of a full theater beats 50% of a half full one.

The 4 week shit is a little wonky but whatever. This is a special case, if they tried this with Coco I would tell them to fuck themselves.
