The Wii versions have the motion controls (which a lot of people could complain about, but I think it works for Prime). I think the Wii version (Prime Trilogy) is more expensive though so it might be easier to get the GameCube ones.

Oh, they don't have individual Wii versions of 1 and 2. Those turned up in search, but I realize now they are JP only.

But the eShop version of Metroid Prime Trilogy is only $20 anyway, so that's probably the way to go.

i started to play with the wii verison of metriod prime the other night. the lock on button!!! i hate it and i love it. You need to lock on, because spining and flowing the enemy is way to hard with the motion control. but when you lock on you have to make sure you are shotting at the middle of the screen. it takes some time getting use to. While gamecube once you lock on you can just hit the button to kill the guy once locked on.

It doesnt lock on to things you want. you will point and it locks on to the closest object instead of the thing you want.

but it is nice to be running and shooting at enemies that aren't in the middle of the screen.

i can't remember if metroid prime had auto aim in the gamecube version, but i'm pretty sure it did

I remember the controls on the GameCube were really awkward and didn't make a lot of sense

The Wii version is ok, but the definitive version of Prime 1 is version 1.0 as they made some weird changes to the game...

But that pretty much only affects speedrunners

I already own the GameCube version of the first one, so I might play it there to get a taste, but I'll probably just do Trilogy for the other two

I'd get the GC version and play it on the Wii. That way you can get some cheap component cables but won't have to worry about the stupid Wiimote.

You can enable free aiming, which makes certain bosses that rely on fooling your lock-on extremely easy.

Honestly with the GameCube controls being as clunky as they are I have to say the Wii versions.

Yeah having the C-stick select your weapon instead of being aiming/camera control was the most unintuitive and absurd design decisions I can think of in the entirety of gaming. I know what effect they were going for, but it doesn't work. Other than that, 10/10 game perfect

On the flip side, the level design is a lot flatter than most FPSs, so quickly looking up or down isn't needed as much.

Contrast Prime 3 which has a ton of vertical sections and even the flat areas have much higher ceilings with stuff on them.

I love the Wii versions for the aiming controls and widescreen ratio.

Either one imo. I thought the controls worked in both cases and didn't take me that long to get used to. Fantastic games in either console. Because of that, I'd say just get the Trilogy for $20.
