And I don't mean the exaggerated accents like Southern US or East coast Canada. I mean the "typical" big city accents.

Is there a difference? Because I hear a pretty big difference when Americans come to my bar. For example, the word "bar" is often times pronounced like "bah(r)". You guys? Can you spot who is from wher

From the americans I've spoken to here(Toronto) and other canadians, I usually can't tell a difference.

Really? I'm from Toronto and find that speaking to Americans is extremely obvious.

Ask them to say "gin and tonic". I find Americans like to say "gin and TAN-ik".

I can sort of tell by the way certain words are pronounced. For example, "Soory!" (Sorry). I hear that from Canadians often.

Americans have many different accents, no one on the west coast would pronounce it that way

the accent doesn't really change just cause you go over a border so besides some regional accents, there isn't a big difference. the standard american and canadian accents sound the same to me

That's a fair point. Being from Toronto, which is East coast, we probably don't get alot of West coasters and most of the accents I hear are the North East. So that may skew my opinion on it.

They are pretty damn similar.

It's funny when people like to think the "aboot" accent is typical in Canada. I've very rarely heard it. And when we do, we make fun of it too. To be fair though where I live is very unlike the rest of the country.

There's no real Canadian accent. There are accents from the native population, from Quebecois, Maritimers, etc., but most other Canadians (not born from other ethnicities and regions of the world) don't have an identifiable accent. I mean, everyone has some semblance of an accent, but it's not like in the US.

Every place has an indentifiable accent.

It always reminds me of kids going "but I don't have an accent!".

People in Yukon don't sound like people in Toronto.

well in new york
you have those people who say "newwww york" with that accent.
and others who sound more similar to other big cities.

houston or some other city in the south.
you have those southern accents
and some people with accent from big cities.
