Southernfatman posted...And I'm sure what he means by "compromise" is the typical Republican view of compromise which is give one side (them) everything they want while the other side has to shut up and take it. Yeah, the ACA had so many compromises, zero Republicans voted for it, and nobody who wasn't involved in writing it even knew what all was in it until months after it passed. what he said about loyalty to state is true. even the people in the north were loyal to their state above the country. it's just that their state chose the union. state was more important than nation back then

Nope, you are wrong. That would be the Gauls. The French culture is actually a combination of Latin culture (That of Rome) and Frankish culture (you know, the culture that French gets it's name from?). The Gauls are closer to the Celts. The Franks migrated to the area much later, and actually contributed to the fall of Rome due to an increased decentralization of Roman power and the continued increased influence of the Catholic church before the schism. As a point of fact, the world population was also under 200 million at the time, so millions of dead Gauls is probably a gross overstatement. If you are going to spout nonsensical comparisons, at least study up first. The fact is that there are clear ramification for people still living today is undeniable (for a point of reference, Canada still had residential schools until the 90's). The fact that they are one of the few populations in the world that literally has no claim to the territory that they held for thousands of years is undeniable. The fact that both forced re-education, blatantly false treaties, and biological warfare were used by a 'modern' democracy that also claimed to be anti-imperialist is also undeniable. If you want to be blissfully ignorant of historical fact and sociological data, that is your choice, but please, don't spread it on here. ... Copied to Clipboard!
