He gave Cell a sensu bean so he could have a fair fight with Gohan, theres no telling what cell would have done otherwise. The piccolo thing was weird. But Super Goku seems downright suicidal. Z goku for the most part didn't work outside his limits. Re-releases have fixed a lot of it, but Goku's rewriten character has been kept. I guess Super is doing some things that can't be written around. Not that it was completely avoided in Z.
