Remember when going from Firefox 2 to 3, and 3 to 4 took years and was actually a substantial change?

It needs to be 2x faster. It takes forever to open the browser.

That said, a faster browser isn't going to improve your connection speed, so don't expect significantly faster page loads.

Isn't 57 on beta right now? I'm on 56.0.2 (64 bits) and it says it's the latest version.

but this connection plays netflix n shit just fine. <_< also its a 300 megabit connection speed. It has to be firefox. but firefox has always been slow. Just never this slow.

maybe my laptop is finally deciding its time to retire

i dunno. ive done a fair bit of testing and both chrome and firefox take the same amount of time. sure, the chrome application opens a bit quicker, but then it gets into a usable state slower. on the other hand, firefox takes slightly longer to open the application, but once it does it gets into a usable state a lot quicker than chrome. the end result is that both open in the same amount of time, chrome just gives the illusion of being faster

Maybe mine is just screwy but it takes about three times as long to open FF as to get to gamefaqs using Chrome.

Thats a shame to hear. I was thinking about switching to Chrome because of how much of a resource hog it is. I use my computer primarily for 3 different things: programming, writing music and games. So I give each activity its own desktop and will leave everything open when I switch between them so when I decide to go back to what I was doing everything will be right where I left it. The problem is that I end up having a handful of chrome tabs open in each desktop and this eats up an insane amount of RAM. So theres been a few times where Ive fired up a game only to have it crash on startup because Chrome was being greedy. I need to find an alternative.

I prefer Waterfox myself as it improves on FF benchmarks and disables data collection for mozilla, among other improvements.
