Religious history is ok as there is some semblance of neutrality and objectivity.

Evolution is a completely different subject though.

Instead of evolution? It doesnt make sense for religion to replace evolution in the classroom. I'm a religious person, and went to a Christian High School, and tbh I would have preferred a more honest, comprehensive education on evolution at the time. It's an observable, natural process that's pretty important.

As an alternative answer to how different species came about? While I am religious, science has a pretty strict methodology that religion doesn't necessarily mesh with. It would be jarring to be learning about the passing on of genetic information and then have "alternatively, the book of Genesis poses this idea...". And in any event, I feel the Bible has far more important messages to be focused on than "what about dinosaurs?" Messages that don't really fall under the "science" label.

Tl;dr: The theory of evolution, regardless of one's opinion of it, is a vital piece of modern education. Religion has its own importance, but they fill two very different roles in society.

Not instead of evolution but rather as an alternative theory to the origin of life.

That is one of the top 5 dumbest things the right has proposed in the past decade. And keep in mind that this is a group that routinely ignores climate change and has Trump as its leader...

@Sayoria

According to the Pew Research Center, a whopping 70% of Americans self-identify as Christians, with 46% actively practicing their Christian faith.

That means that nearly 226 million Americans have Christian faith as a central element of their lives. Religious faith for many is not just a box they tick, but is an element of their lives that shapes most of the large decisions in your life that are made; who you marry, your code of ethics, how you raise your family, etc.

As a result, it is absurd that we are not incorporating religious education in public schools when it is something that impacts so much of the population of the US. Obviously the US has separation of Church and state, but when religion is such a vital element in the lives of so many Americans, it is important to have an understanding of these concepts when it is so profoundly influential to the way we live our lives.

Like it or not, America was founded on Judeo Christian values and principles. We have significant evidence that many American founders were orthodox, religious Christians, and at the time 98% of Europeans identified as Christians. While you can argue that maybe they were not truly devout in their personal lives, there is no way these founders could have not had some Christian influence when nearly every single person in the western world at the time was Christian.

Therefore, Christianity has a very important part in American's culture and history and continues to do so. Christianity is an important part of our nation's framework. Modern Christian theology is absolutely compatible with science, as they frequently do not cover the same topics, and they should be given the same attention as science.

lol imagine thinking this way

I would love that. I conferenced briefly with my partner and they had some links for me. The pew research information is great for my partner's argument.

I'm happy because my partner and I are in full agreement to help with each other and it's going to go super smooth. He (they? I think they might be non-binary but not sure) claimed that there was a protester from South Carolina outside of the school and my partner out-knowledged the guy in religion because as I said, my partner went through actual religious schooling. He wanted to get the guy's opinion and it apparently went pretty funny.

I remember having this exact same thought when i was like 7
But not as a replacement to gravity, more of a "how would we know if this is happening"

Wow. I hadn't even heard that one. That's fucking hilarious and also thoroughly, absurdly ridiculous. lol.. especially because of it having a slight understanding of physics where it's just inconceivable for that sentence to be spoken. I can understand that going through a person's head, but there's so many checkpoints for reconsideration, especially the one where dropping something doesn't cause the ground to change position under either the object or the person. Man.. craziness really is contagious.
