Playing thief-y character who is meant to rely a lot on personality, stealth, and illusion

Hey posted...
Theives suck.

I've made 4000 Gold from stealing moon sugar and skooma + stuff like robbing the house with the key that I later gave to the Thieves Guild

I pretty much want my character to hone his skills with city stuff so that he ultimately becomes equipped to effectively raid dungeons without worrying too much about being slammed in the face by axes or something. Plus with all the money I'm making I'll be able to use trainers too. Eventually I'll do the Blade stuff

Maybe my character is a bad person but I don't think he's evil. He's not above crime but if people are in need then he will help them. He doesn't prey on those that don't have the strength or assets to defend themselves. If rich bachelors don't do a good job of protecting their shit, though, that's their own problem

Morrowind is so goodsneaking and stealing have so many opportunities! The hand placed loot makes theft actually satisfying rather than procedural.

Here are some good places Ill let you figure out how to break into so as to not ruin the game. If you want to know how to make it easy Ill tell you

Seyda Neen has a lot of imperial equipment and confiscated Moon sugar in an excise office.
The mages guild of balmora enchanter has a lot nice filled soul gems including a grand soul gem filled with a soul that can make constant effects.
Each house (ie hlaalu redoran televani) has a vault in Vivec filled to the brim with some of the best weapons and armor in the game. They also have a ton of guards!!

You should try and hook up with the morag tong. Those Writs they give you dont have to be given to guards if no one sees you do the deed so you get free get out of jail cards!

Youve inspired me to pick this up again. Im going unmodded though

And yes, some of the directions in this shit are terrible. I specifically remember a house redoran quest where the directions are like follow the lava until you hit a hill, make a left at a hill and blah blah blah. Literally wandering forever.

Although the amount of choice is phenomenal in this game it also leaves me with regrets all the time. Now that I've made myself into this roguish dark elf who hides and steals and relies on his personality and bribes, I yearn for being a meaty wall of pain impaling everything in its path with a spear and acting honorly. I think that is one thing that Skyrim really does well, characters can have changes of heart on the fly and I really like that. I see why many don't like it but I dislike that your character is sort of 'born into' these major skills and attributes that determine what they can get done. I guess both systems make trades on realism and idealism. Anyway I guess it's a good excuse to replay and do different factions and such though.

The tragic part of that is that I have much less time for vidya than I used to now that I'm at boarding school so it's harder to get in any playtime at all

What kind of screenshots would you want

Yeah tanking it is really the way to go in Morrowind. Stealth can be pretty fun in Skyrim but Morrowind just isnt really equipped for it.

I am using a mod for +5 at every level up because I think the old system is dumb, I hope that's not too much

I wish there was a way to go >+1 in Luck

Stealth isnt very effective in combat because of the lack of large sneak attack modifiers. But a lot of missions really dont require killing anyway.

But really they have an amulet that is pretty easy to get that makes you like 85% chameleon which prevents pretty much everyone from being able to see you anyway.

Imo sneaking is a good skill to have if you want to take shortcuts and want diversity in what you have to accomplish

How does Sneak work? I'll be behind someone and try to pick a lock and they'll turn around and attack

Went up like 10 levels with a trainer but don't feel like it did too much good

UESP is a nice resource but they also like to give advice on how to trivialize the game with super broken cheap strats and I don't get why they do that

Had to go into Vivec because I accidentally ran out of money after taking a boat there so I could pay the strider. What a mess, thank god all the vendors are right there. That place terrifies me

Yes it is a really nice resource. I bet most of their traffic comes from people trying to break these games as well.

I installed it first before anything else, turned distant land down to 8, and didn't install tamriel rebuilt. It ended up working out.

Today I moved on from Balmora to Ahldrun because the Thieves Guild in Balmora ran out of quests.

Got a chance to rob the whole Mages Guild which was ridiculous.

So I keep making a ton of money so I should spend it on training, right? I'm emphasizing Personality in my level ups and also I have Mercantile as a minor skill so I feel like I should train it up. Since then training other stats and such will be cheaper. But is that actually worth it? Will I make significantly more money with high Mercantile or is this a lousy investment?

Once your Mercantile/Personality are high enough, you can buy a item, and then sell it right back to the same vendor for a profit.
