sad that asians are jumping on that "everything is racist" bandwagon
A lot of Instagram-loving foodies are perpetuating racist stereotypes about ethnic dishes

Uh it absolutely was a racist depiction of Chinese restaurants. From "sweatshop" being a working speed mode to chasing cats in your alleyway when you're running low on meat in your inventory. Shit, the developers even named themselves Big-o-tree Games as a pun on bigotry.

Anecdotally, my family and friends weren't particularly offended. We'd have tried it out if it was free, but it's not worth paying for a game built on tired and overused stereotypes, even if they're not entirely baseless ones. We probably derived more amusement from the fact the devs were based in Markham.

I've been to a lot of Chinese restaurants and I've never been to one with workers wearing rice hats and find their meat from back alley cats.

If you're simply ending it at a dirty Chinese restaurant that you're surprised passed health inspection, you'd at least have something resembling a point, but the game goes far beyond that.

Thats cuz youve been to an American Chinese restaurant. The one in the game is located in China

Fam I'm from Hong Kong

Dirty restaurants are a thing and often joked about by my family. Cat-eating ones are significantly less of a thing. Also this game is definitely not set in China because your Chinese workers are also illegal immigrants and the immigration official comes to deport your staff occasionally.

Pretty sure the whole point of it was to be racist as hell for the sake of making a few jokes. Frankly the real problem was that it was lazy humor, not offensive.

Neither, but my cousins tell me the Hong Kong one is kinda crappy and too small to be worth visiting.

That's my main issue with it. It's not clever, which is why I wouldn't try it unless it was free (cue "cheap Asian" joke here).

Boooo. I'd love to go to either one but I've heard Shanghai is absolutely mindblowing and the best theme park on the planet right now.

If you want a more "Hong Kong-esque" experience, I'd suggest going to Ocean Park. If you just want an entertaining park, then Disney should be okay. The main issue is that Hong Kong is far too small to have anything on the scale we're used to in North America so it'd feel kind of underwhelming, especially since we've vacationed in Florida and visited the parks there a long time ago.
