But given the rash of violent incidents at recent white nationalist events and the rhetoric of some of the leading participants, civil rights groups and city leadership in Murfreesboro and Shelbyville are preparing for the worst. Look how much real violence and possibility for violence weve seen just in the last couple of events, Heidi Beirich, head of the Southern Poverty Law Centers intelligence project on extremism, told TPM. Beirich described the groups involved in Saturdays planned rallies as some of the most hardcore and hardline forces in the white nationalist movement, noting that one of the headliners, the neo-Confederate League of the South, has spent the last few years building up a paramilitary force. This isnt the kind of soft racism of we want a white ethno-state, Beirich said. This is Hitlerian thinking. Scheduled speakers include the Traditionalist Worker Partys Matthew Heimbach, white nationalist radio host Mike Enoch, League of the South president Michael Hill, and Vanguard Americas Dillon Hopper. A number of those organizations fly under the banner of the Nationalist Front, an umbrella group working to unite pro-White organizations, and several of those participants and groups are currently being sued by the city of Charlottesville, Virginia, for helping to spearhead Augusts violent white nationalist rally there. ... Police and local businesses have also taken steps to reduce opportunities for conflict. Many shop owners will simply shutter their stores, reducing the number of people on the sidewalks. But the militaristic language is still present. A third Barnette-affiliated group, Aryan Renaissance Society, claims to be the leading force behind the WLM movement. From that alone, it should be pretty obvious that the source of the WLM matter movement isn't average white people. But in case anyone has doubts as to how bad these groups are, let me expand a little bit: Aryan Strikeforce was indicted in May 2017 of conspiring to transport methamphetamine, money laundering drug proceeds, transfer of unregistered machine gun parts, possession of firearms by convicted felons, and the illegal transfer of firearms to convicted felons. The NSM call for denying citizenship to Jews, non-Whites, and homosexuals and has committed a laundry list of hate crimes and associated recruitment tactics (ex: they produced a bunch of white power music CDs to sell to school kids). These are criminal organizations with a long rap sheet and ideologies that go beyond "White Lives Matter" to straight White supremacy. There are additional groups as well with similar goals: Traditionalist Worker Party - want to form "an independent white ethno-state in North America" in which immigration is "limited to members of the White European Race." Blame "Jewry" for modern mercantilism League of the South - Call for modern secession, have formed militia Vanguard America - a white supremacist group that opposes multiculturalism and believes America is an exclusively white nation A lot of commentators have focused on Black Lives Matters, but these are not groups that exist simply to counter Black Lives Matters. They have a hateful ideology that claim all non-whites should deported/exterminated (though depending on group they also attack Jews, gay people, liberals, northerners, etc.). "White Lives Matter" is generic enough that many conservatives (and some liberals) falsely believe the group arose as a moderate response to BLM.
