How do people think the Galaxies are so much better than Sunshine? Last time I tried playing all those games I 100%'d Sunshine in two months whereas I lost interest in both Galaxies quickly (this may be because I played them to death when I was younger admittedly).

When I replayed 64 and Sunshine three years ago, to me it felt like 64 got linear platforming right but design flaws started to show up in regards to the more open objectives. Sunshine fixed up most everything wrong with 64 but ultimately the locales weren't as memorable, and the game showed obvious signs of being rushed.

Also I never had much in the way of camera issues in 64 outside of tight spaces, of which there aren't many (maybe it helped that I was playing Sonic Adventure and Pac-Man World 2, both of which have much worse camera issues, at around the same time). Sunshine did fix that up thankfully.

Because Sunshine isn't a great Platformer, and the Galaxy games are the 2 best designed platformers ever Everything makes sense, they work in gravity and flight in incredible ways. The power ups and the way they are used is astoundingly well done.

Sunshine IS a great platformer though. Just because it has some flaws doesn't mean it's the end of the world.

Okay, TBH, Sunshine has enough BS and is enough of an oddball within the series that I can understand why it's so polarizing. I'm just asking why people see the Galaxies as being SO much better.

Good, the easy cop-out answer.

At least I'm not Chuggaaconroy whose favorite Mario is Sunshine.

I don't see how you're any better, constantly acting as if your opinions are hard fact.

Admittedly I'm mostly trying to get a rise out of you guys because it's stupidly fun.

See, this is what I said earlier: I think 64 and Sunshine are at opposites where 64 does linear platforming well but things start to fall apart when it comes to the more exploratory objectives, whereas Sunshine is more or less the opposite.

That being said, I didn't think the FLUDD-less segments were some kind of magical highlight from the rest of the game. Although I didn't think the Chuckster Pianta shine was that bad.

Whether you see it or it it's painfully obvious they were. The Fluddless segments were unreal well done. Many of the best moments of the series in those few shines. Just platform bliss. Proof they could still do it, but decided to give us this dumb ass water hose instead to suck the fun out of so much of the game.

I'm glad the two Galaxy games are getting a lot of support, I thought SM64 would be easily winning due to LFF.

despite being one of the very first 3D platformers ever (I think there might have been something that qualifies before SM64 but I don't remember what),

crash bandicoot came out before it.

but if that one doesn't count (because it's more 2.5D) i'm pretty sure SM64 is the first one.

edit: oh, i didn't see jakyl's post. yeah, i guess jumping flash! was earlier. jumping flash! 2 was earlier too, actually.

64, of course. Then Sunshine, then 3D Land, then Galaxy 1, then Odyssey and 3D World because I haven't played them.

I honestly don't understand how Galaxy 2 is winning this. I mean, I'm assuming 3D World is probably ass as well because it's an early WiiU game so it's bound to be filled with more awful motion control gimmicks, but I can't imagine even that being as bad as Galaxy 2.

Hi...

How's it going.

While I don't personally think it's the second/third best game of all time. By composite score SMG2 is only behind OoT and BotW. (And after this maybe Odyssey... who knows). Either way, it had beyond amazing reviews and in fact for about 2 weeks it was the highest rated game ever...

SO yeah. Not "understanding" how a composite top 3 scored game ever could be winning is kinda on you more than anyone else.

I honestly wish that someone who's actually respected on this board had the guts to say this. No offense, but your reputation is even worse than mine.

Though I'm still trying to figure out why he still hasn't ignored you when he's ignored me for ages.

I'm not understanding your post. "Composite Score"? You need to explain what you're talking about. I suspect it involves critics, which clearly doesn't imply actual gamers' opinions because it's pure Nintendo and we all know that classic Square would be ahead of most Nintendo games that aren't OoT.

Stop half-quoting meaningless numbers at me.

Why do people have so much issue with FLUDD? I thought it was a great way to mix up the gameplay from past Mario titles (which, I have admitted, I have little to no nostalgia for).

I don't have an issue with FLUDD I have an issue with how fucking tedious spraying away the paint was. Even during speedrunning it looks slow, never mind a first time playthrough.
