I think it is a nice little extra for users who like to support their favorite streamers. And they are temporal so no one is forcing you to buy them.

Cheering with more than 250 Bits won't unlock more than one loot box (you have to do multiple Cheers of 250 Bits or more to get more boxes), though a 5,000 Bit cheer will permanently unlock Zombie Lord Kappa. 5,000 Bits costs $64.40 at an 8% bulk discount.

so they're more expensive than overwatch lootboxes, which is literally lootbox: the game.

The problem is they are forcing me not to spend money because I can't buy the things I want because I'm only paying for a chance to get it. So instead of spending $5 to get a neat skin, I'm spending $3.50 for a 1 in 20 chance to get it.

Which means since I'm not spending money I'm not the target demographic and less games I like get made.

Most loot boxes do absolutely no harm to any game, at all. Ever

Even the Battlefront 2 loot box system isn't as bad as people had thought it was going to be.

Literally nobody goes to twitch for the emotes. They're just an extra thing for chat to good with and interact with the broadcaster. The only emotes that matter in Twitch are the base ones and the broadcaster emotes

People need to start fighting loot boxes. It seems harmless enough for some games, but that's how they get you. They lull you in and next thing you know you'll have loot boxes in single player games and stuff worse than loot boxes.

This issue always comes down to too many people assuming everyone hates loot boxes or that loot boxes are bad. Obviously enough people enjoy them that these companies keep using them and expecting positive value from it.
