Hey, I thought Trump was a master negotiator. Why did the government agree to this god-awful contract?

Though I am sure the contract is probably standard. I am curious to know how many government contracts Trump personally negotiates in your opinion.

Yeah 2 person company from the hometown of the interior secretary gets 300 million dollars to restore a country's energy grid and nobody is allowed to question the costs, the timetable to finish, or file a claim if the work is never finished. Totally standard stuff I'm sure.

Only part i find troubling.

Why would you just assume that? And even if you?re right, isn?t that deeply troubling?

And yeah we know Trump didn?t negotiate this one, because there WAS no negotiation. There was no bidding process allowed for this project. It was just handed to Whitefish.

Are you surprised? My cousins company works on bridges. They get almost double their rate to work on federal jobs than regular jobs. They also almost always do the job as slow as possible to extend it to keep working longer. (They are 12 months over schedule on their current job) Why I somewhat doubt shad's comment on reviewing government contracts thing. .
The government has been over paying for work since forever.

I don't know how to fix the system.

Yes I'm lying about being an auditor. Davis Bacon Act (prevailing wages) is a requirement for any federal work, that is true. However, contracts are provided on a schedule and a specific amount of money. If they go over, they better have a damn good reason, otherwise they are still on the hook for finishing the job and aren't getting more money.

Though most jobs are paid on a basis of how much is done vs hourly rates anyway.

Went over schedule. "Took longer than expected".

A lot of the problem with jobs is that people generally bid best case scenarios mostly because if every other company is you have to to compete. However, there really is not a good job vetting those bids either. War Dogs is a great example of it. (If you have seen it)

But the thing is, that isn't a valid reason to get more money. They sign a contract for a certain amount of money. They get money based on percentage of project complete. "Taking longer than expected" is the contractor's error and not adding to the overall project.

Depends. There are times when a company comes back and says the job cannot be done for the money and requests more funds. That is when shit usually hits the fan.

That said companies are generally trying to win bids. Not as much worried about hitting deadlines.

In which case they lied on their bid and will not be chosen again by this government. Winning a bid and then saying "oh that's actually not enough" is a good way to make sure your bids aren't considered in the future.

I don't know if its holding back so much as the entire government is understaffed right now and they can't get shit done.

Not sure if that extends to the FBI, though.

I am saying I am sure this contract is standard for disaster relief bids. I can't see them just magically making up a contract out of nowhere for one specific company. But who knows.

Even if you want to argue that the lack of oversight or auditing is somehow "normal", take a look at this shit:

https://twitter.com/kenklippenstein/status/923738930662510592

$332.41 per person for accommodations *each day*

$79.82 per person for food *each day*

That's a reasonable budget if you're planning a luxury vacation. If you're on a taxpayer-funded work trip? That's straight-up graft and waste.

Well, you are right on that. Shady shit does happen when money is involved. I think the shadiest thing is if there is a conflict of interest with who won the bid in reference to the person who awarded the bid. That would be an ethics violation.

For comparison, the federal government per diem rate for Puerto Rico is $91/night for lodging and $51/day for meals. That lodging price is exceptionally high regardless of where in the states/territories you are, and that meals per diem sounds like the south Florida rate.

Well. He was an asshole that didn't recuse himself. So Trump can't arrest him now as it would look awful.

If I were him I would just pardon everyone before they are even officially indicted, and sign an EO immediately and with no impunity dissolving the FBI and any currently ongoing and future investigations.

After that. I don't know. You have to get Mueller, but I really don't know how since you dissolved the FBI.

Give the CIA additional duties since you got rid of the FBI and appoint someone to investigate Mueller and his dealings with the DNC.

Maybe. I don't know. How to get him is really hard now...
